This is the part of plot where we learn the characters, setting, and background information.
What is the exposition?
This is a problem in a story.
What is a conflict?
An example might be that Suzy told Jane a secret, and now Jane has blabbed that secret to half of the school. Now it seems like everybody knows that Suzy has a crush on Cam, and she's furious with Jane!
What is an example of character vs. character conflict?
This happens when an author directly tells you what type of person a character is.
In this part of plot, the conflict intensifies and the problem gets worse.
What is the rising action?
This is the part of plot where all loose ends are tied up and the main character USUALLY gets a "happily ever after."
What is the resolution?
This is the main character in the story that the reader wants to be successful.
Who is the protagonist?
An example might be that Stryker was having a great time on a camping trip with his friends. They were out hiking in the foothills behind the campsite when a dust storm kicked up suddenly, totally blocking their view and making it difficult to breathe.
What is an example of a character vs. nature conflict?
This is when an author reveals a character's personality with clues like the character's speech, thoughts and feelings, effects on other characters, actions, and looks.
What is indirect characterization?
TRUE OR FALSE: The events in a plot diagram don't necessarily have to go in the order that the author tells them in the story. For example, in some stories, the resolution can occur BEFORE the climax.
FALSE - the plot diagram should be a timeline of the story's events, and they should happen in the order in which they occur in the story.
This is the turning point in the plot.

These are the two main categories of conflict in a story.
What are internal and external conflicts?
An example might be that Tammy moved to a new school and wanted everyone to like her. She bragged about her new clothes, her dad's new job, the big, fancy car they drove, her membership to an elite country club, and her private swimming instructor who was going to get her into the Olympics. Everybody rolled their eyes at Tammy and went about their day, giggling behind their hands about her. Nobody would sit with her at lunch.
What is an example of character vs. society conflict?
This type of character stays the same throughout the course of a story.
What is a static character?
This is the character or force that tries to get in the way of the main character's success.
What is the antagonist?
This is the point in the plot where the characters deal with the consequences of the climax.
What is the falling action?
This happens when a character is having a problem with something that is not part of the human world.
What is character vs. supernatural conflict?
An example might be that Marshall knew it was going to rain, so he packed his umbrella and raincoat. When the sky opened up, though, he discovered that his raincoat had a hole, and his umbrella was rusted shut.
What is an example of character vs. technology conflict?
This type of character has only one main personality trait and isn't very well developed or realistic.
What is a flat character?
This is a fully developed, realistic character.
What is a round character?
This is the point in the plot where the conflict is kicked off and the readers can see what the problem will be in the story.
What is the initiating event?
This happens when a character has a problem with some human-made thing.
What is character vs. technology conflict?
An example might be that Monique saw Janae looking at her math notes during the test, and now Monique has to decide whether to be honest and tell her teacher or keep quiet and stay loyal to her friend.
What is an example of character vs. self conflict?
This type of character starts out one way but is different by the end of the story.
What is a dynamic character?
This is the only type of internal conflict.
