The Judicial Branch of government deals with criminal and constitutional cases. They work for the Prime Minister and the Executive Branch. 

The Judicial Branch is completely separate from the other branches of government.  This is supposed to keep them impartial.

All the levels of government bring in money through taxes. This money is divided up by the Federal Government and distributed. 

Each level has specific taxes. These include different income taxes, sales taxes and other means. 

Also, government businesses and other fund raising options are available.

The placement of parties and ideas on the political compass is absolute, and nothing can change it. 

Parties and ideas change all the time, and their position on the political compass is often relative.

The green party has always stood for responsible environmental protections. This belief puts them to the far left of the political compass.

Their economic policies are actually farther right than the NDP and the BQ, as they want to support business, so long as it is green.

Only the Prime Minister decides on if things pass as laws. The MPs are there simply to advise.

A majority vote in the House of Commons is required to pass a law.

The Ontario Provincial Government is currently operating on a Surplus Budget.  This means that they are bringing in more taxes than they are spending on services. 

The Ontario government is operating on a Deficit Budget. The current total debt is around 500 billion dollars.

A responsible citizen is expected to never question laws and authorities, extract national resources, believe the government always, serve themself before others, and believe Canadians are more important than other nationalities.

Laws prohibiting hateful and violent speech are limits on the freedom of expression. These are supposed to protect vulnerable communities and groups. This is an example of Libertarian thinking. 

This is authoritarian thinking.

Once you are elected as a member of a party, an MP must remain with that party until the next election. 

An MP can "Cross the Isle" at any time, changing their party allegiance during a parliamentary session.

The Legislative Branch of the Government is made up of the House of Commons and the Senate, each of which are up for re-election every 4 years.  

The Senate is not elected, but appointed by the PM and Governor General. 

House of Commons can be elected sooner than 4 years if an election is called.

While Municipal governments can be created, organized and dissolved by the province, they are an important part of our government structure.  Not only do construct and maintain Highways, but also set zoning restrictions and property taxes. 

Municipal government is not responsible for highway maintenance.

The only Civic Actions a person can take are: Voting, and Running for public office.

There are numerous civic actions.

The extreme right of the political spectrum is occupied by Fascist ideas (Nazism), the extreme left is occupied by Socialist ideas (Stalinism).  Both extremes are absolutely authoritarian. 

The extreme of the left is communism, not socialism.

The Bloc Quebecois is only eligible to run in provincial elections because they only run candidates in Quebec.

The three branches of government are: the Legislative, The Nomenclative and the Judicial.

The Federal, or National, Government alone is responsible for things like: Immigration, Foreign Policy and Policing

The Provinces and Municipal governments can also have their own police forces.

Viola Desmond, a Canadian Civic Figure, refused to sit at the back of a bus in Nova Scotia.  She was arrested for this.  Her arrest sparked a debate about different sections in public transit.

The Political Compass comes from the American Revolution, where those loyal to the king and traditions sat on the right, and those less loyal and looking for change sat on the left.

The Liberal Party of Canada is often placed in the center left of the political compass. Their leader Justin Trudeau, has been moving the party farther right economically with new policies following the March 2025 election. 

The leader of the Liberal party is Mark Carney.

The Executive Branch is made up of the Prime Minister, the Governor General, the Cabinet and the PMO, all of which are elected positions. 

The Governor General and the PMO are not elected officials.

The provincial governments are responsible for Education, Pubic Libraries and Health Care. 

Not responsible for Public Libraries, that's Municipal Government.

Civic Actions can only be taken by elected officials or other authorities.

Anyone can take civic action.

The ideas of Publicly funded education and healthcare represent ideas from the Economic Right of the political compass. 

Those are examples of Economically Left policies.
