The study of tissues
What is Histology?
This tissue type consists of one layer of cells
What is simple epithelial?
Type of connective tissue that is the most rigid/hardest.
What is bone (osseous tissue)?
This muscle type is found attached to bones.
What is skeletal muscle?
This cell type makes up 10% of nervous tissue and it cannot regenerate when damaged.
What is a neuron?
Cells that make fibers
What are fibroblasts?
This is the free edge/ top surface of a layer of epithelial tissue.
What is the apical surface?
This tissue type consists of more than one layer of cells
What is stratified epithelial?
This tissue stores energy in the form of lipids and traditionally has a white appearance.
What is adipose?
This muscle tissue has intercalated disks.
What is Cardiac?
This tissue forms the cushion-like discs between the vertebrae
What is fibrocartilage?
Contains cells that fight of infections.
What is blood?
This epithelial tissue appears to be stratified in its appearance, but it is not. The cells have nuclei at different heights.
What is pseudostratified?
This is a flat layer of epithelial cells.
What is simple squamous epithelial?
This type of cartilage is found in the nose, is rubbery in texture, and has a white appearance.
What is hyaline cartilage?
This muscle tissue contracts voluntarily, is striated, and has long cells with more than one nucleus.
What is skeletal muscle?
Most widely distributed CT, soft and pliable/looks like cobwebs and contains all fiber types
Areolar
This cartilage is found within the outer ear. It is highly flexible.
What is elastic cartilage?
The 4 general tissue types of the human body
What is epithelial, muscular, connective, and nervous tissue?
This type of epithelial tissue is found in the bladder and it stretches.
What is transitional epithelium?
connective tissue that is made of cells surrounded by a LIQUID matrix?
Blood.
This tissue contracts involuntarily, is found in the heart, and is striated.
What is cardiac muscle?
Functions in irritability and conductivity
Nervous tissue
Type of tissue that has Haversian Canals?
Bone
Tissue that functions in binding, support and protection
What is Connective Tissue
List the 4 functions of epithelial tissue.
What are protection, absorption, filtration, and secretion?
Entire fetal skeleton prior to birth.
What is hyaline cartilage
This muscle contracts involuntarily, does NOT have striations, and is found in internal organs, such as the intestines.
What is smooth muscle?
Has a cell body and a long axon and dendrites
What are Neurons?
Why do ligaments and tendons heal slowly?
They have a low level of vascularity (blood supply)?
