The way an organism reacts to other organisms or the environment
How many traits does a pedigree tree follow
1
In what type of organism does vegetative reproduction occur in.
plants
Provide an example of an innate and a learned trait in humans.
innate:crying
learned:speaking
What are the male and female parts of a flower called
male-stamen
female-pistil
When a pollen grain lands on a female part of a plant of the same species.
pollination
Provide an example of a phenotype for eye color.
blue, brown, grey, green, etc.
How many organisms are required for sexual reproduction
2
Provide an example of a courtship behavior
a bird singing to attract a mate.
What do nonflowering seeded plants have instead of flowers?
2 types of cones
A different form of a gene
allele
Label the following genotypes as homozygous dominant, homozygous recessive, and heterozygous:
Aa AA aa
Aa-heterozygous
AA-homozygous dominant
aa-homozygous recessive
How many organisms are required for asexual reproduction
1
How does successful reproduction of an animal rely on both the parents and offspring
The parents need to mate and protect the offspring to have successful reproduction. But the offspring must also use their innate behaviors to keep themselves safe when they are born. I.E a tadpole must swim away from danger and not just stay still.
Why do plants have flowers?
Explain the difference between regeneration and budding
regeneration occurs from an offspring growing from a piece of the parent.
Budding they grow on the body of the parent
If we have two hybrid parents (Tt), what is the ratio of having a Tall (T) to short (t) offspring?
3:1
What are the advantages and disadvantages to sexual reproduction
Advantages: Variation in the species.
Disadvantages: Takes a lot of time and energy.
How do both genetic and environmental factors influence the growth of an animal.
An animal is born with limitations of size and some behaviors when they are born based on their genes. But the environment also affects them in terms of what they eat and where they live to keep themselves safe. If an animal does not take care of itself it will not fulfill its potential that it was born with, leaving them unhealthy.
Explain the three types of tropisms
gravitropism: plants response to gravity
phototropism:plants response to light
thigmotropism: plants response to touch
Explain the difference between genetics and heredity.
genetics is the study of traits being passed down.
heredity is the traits being passed down
If both parents have the same trait, and the offspring have a mix of both we know that the parents trait is dominant. If the parents either have different traits, or they have the same trait and the offspring only have that trait, we can not tell what the dominant or recessive trait is.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of asexual reproduction
Advantages: happens quickly, with little energy.
Disadvantages: No variation in the offspring
What is a behavior animals have that does not have to do with finding a mate
protecting their young/herding
What are the three ways that seeds can be moved and provide an example of each.
Wind- a propeller seed flys through the air.
Water- A coconut floats down the water until it gets dropped off and planted.
Animal- animals eat fruit then deposit the seeds later.
