The Dust Bowl was a drought that took place in the 1930's during the Great Depression. As a result of the drought farmers were pushed out of the area (Kansas, Oklahoma, etc.) because they couldn't grow any crops to sustain their livelihoods. As a result of the drought farmers were pulled west to states like California where land was more fertile and opportunity presented itself.

How was the Trail of Tears an example of migration? What was one push factor and one pull factor associated with the Trail of Tears?
The Trail of Tears was the largest forced migration of American Indians in the U.S. The migration took place during the 1830's/1840's after the U.S. government under President Andrew Jackson passed laws (and used military force) that forced American Indians off their land and relocated them west. The American Indians were pushed off their lands because of the U.S. government's policies, and military, whose interests was in the Indians' land (ex: gold). The American Indians were pulled west, in some circumstances, to avoid further persecution by the U.S. government, and to try to assimilate and make peace with the government.
