Term for a device that has software built directly into the physical device?
What is an embedded device?
This part is used for short term memory usage
What is Random Access Memory (RAM)?
This is how users interact with the operating system, using graphics and primarily the mouse.
What is Graphical User Interface (GUI)?
This layer is what users interact with daily when using programs
What is the application layer?
The unique string of numbers separated by periods that identifies each computer to communicate over a network?
What is an IP address?
This part is considered the "brain of a computer, where it directs resources for applications.
What is the Central Processing Unit (CPU)?
This method is used by typing commands through a keyboard to execute functions.
What is Command Line Interface (CLI)?
This layer us used for network to network transmission of data.
What is the network layer?
DNS stands for this.
What is Domain Name Service/System?
This part is where all hardware is installed onto or connects to.
What is the motherboard?
This is the term used for any protocols, products, procedures, etc that are privately owned by a person or a company and can not legally be used or modified without permission.
What is proprietary?
This layer is used to prepare data to be transferred or pulled off of media. Also used in internal network transmission.
What is the Data Link Layer?
This is what is typed into a browser by the user when trying to access a website.
What is Uniform Resource Locator (URL)?
This part uses spinning magnetic disks for long term storage.
What is Hard Drive Disk (HDD)?
This term is used when a protocol, product, procedure, etc is free to the public and can legally be used or modified by anyone.
What is open source?
This layer is responsible for making sure data is packaged. One protocol is for guaranteed delivery while the other is considered to be "best effort".
What is the transport layer?
This term is used for the physical parts of a computer and is composed of circuits, chips, wires, speakers, plugs, etc.
