The Climax

What genre of text would a reader find a theme?
Narrative text and/or poetry
The part of the story that shows how the story ends. It usually contains the theme of the story.
The Resolution
Provide a 1 to 3 sentence summary of the story "The Secret of the Winter Count."

What does "sneaky" mean?
Doing something in secret.
What should a reader be looking for in order to find the theme of a narrative story?
-How did the main character change?
-What was the problem and how did it get fixed?
-What made the main character change?
-What lesson did the main character learn?

The exposition

What does "self-confident" mean?
Trusting in one's abilities, qualities, and judgment.
Believing in yourself.
What is a theme in a narrative?
The message or lesson that the author wants you to learn through the actions of the main character of the story.
The part of the narrative that shows all of the actions after the turning point in the story. It shows how the main character has changed.
The Falling Action
Provide a 1 to 3 sentence summary of the story "Out of My Mind." (The story of Melody, who could not walk or talk)

What does "adventurous" mean?
Willing to take risks or try out new methods, ideas, or experiences.
Name three common themes a reader can find in narrative stories.
Possible responses:
Friendship, kindness, love, sharing, learning, peace, patience, joy, self-control, goodness, bravery, overcoming obstacles, hard work pays off, it's ok to be different, dreams, never give up, doing the right thing, etc.
The part of the story where most of the action happens. It shows how the problem occurs.
The Rising Action

What does "confused" mean?
Unable to think clearly.
To not understand.
What is the difference between main idea and theme?
The main idea tells what the story is about, but the theme tells the lesson that was learned in the story.
