This gas is taken in by plants during photosynthesis
Carbon Dioxide
Define what an adaptation
process by which organisms become better suited to their environment.
What is a food web?
All the food chains in an ecosystem
Cells
What happened to the elodea cells when they were put into salt water?? Draw how the cells would look.
They shrank
The two main products of photosynthesis are glucose and this gas.
Oxygen (O2)
What are animals called? When they eat other things to get energy.
Consumer
What is a consumer?
What is the major difference between a plant and animal cell?
Plant cells have cell walls.
What way does molecules flow? This process is called diffusion
From high to low
What is the name for plants: it means the produce their own food
Producer
What would happen to an ecosystem if you add an invasive species?
The ecosystem would become unbalanced. The invasive species would take food away from organisms that already live there.
What is a producer?
Organism that makes its own food. Plants.
How is the human body organized?
cells make tissues, tissues make organs, organs make organ systems, organ systems make you.
What does permeable mean?
Able to pass through something
Why was the algae the only thing to survive when disease came into the ecosystem and all of the other organisms lost their food source and died?
Algae do not need other organism to survive they make their own food.
What are some adaptations of giant kelp
Bladders that fill with gas to keep them on the oceans surface to get sunlight.
Holdfast to keep them attached to the ocean floor.
A food web is a diagram that represents the feeding relationships between these in an ecosystem.
Organisms
What body systems are involved in eating breakfast? 3
Digestive, Muscular, and Nervous systems
Explain exactly what is happening when the elodea cells are shrinking? What is shrinking? What is not shrinking?
When put into saltwater, the water in the cell is leaving. Causing the cell membranes to shrink. Salt particles are too big to pass through the cell membrane.
Describe what happened to the Elodea Plant cells when they were submerged into salt water
The cell membrane shrank because water was leaving the cell. Salt particles are too big to go through the cell membrane so the water leaves and goes towards the salt.
What are some adaptations that crab have to deal with the intertidal zone
must deal with exposure to both air and water, and must not dry out when exposed to air for long periods of time. To cope with this, crabs have developed very thick, dense outer shells to help minimize water loss when out of water.
How does energy flow through a food web?
Energy flows through a food web by organism eating other organisms.
What is the body system that is involved in everything you do?
Nervous System
During the lab where a bag of cornstarch was placed in a beaker containing iodine and water, the cornstarch inside the bag turned purple but the surrounding water did not. What does that mean?
This means the bag was permeable to the iodine. The iodine was able to pass through the bag but the cornstarch was not. That is why the bag turned purple and the liquid in the beaker did not.
