The story might talk about why the cat sneaked into the garden and tried to catch the fish. We would know if the cat was scared when it fell into the pool or how it felt about losing its collar. The story would be from the cat’s eyes instead of the goldfish’s eyes.

Both What the Goldfish Saw and My Job are told from an animal’s point of view, so we understand how they feel. The goldfish watches what happens around the pool, while the dog protects her family by acting. Both stories help us see the animals’ experiences, but the goldfish is more of an observer, and the dog is more protective and doesn’t just watch what happens.
