Teens spend a lot of time staring at their phones or some sort of screen. They become like zombies while scrolling through all their social media accounts and ignoring the world around them. Phones are constantly buzzing, alerting owners that they need to look at their screens once again. Their eyes stay glued to the screen like moths drawn to a glowing light.

Studies have shown that too much screen time may have negative effects on teens and may cause issues such as obesity, sleep problems, and behavioral or educational struggles. On average, teenagers spend 7 1/2 hours a day in front of a screen which totals more than 53 hours per week or 2,770 hours each year. Experts tell parents to set limits on their teen’s screen time and even be a role model by limiting their own screen time. Teens might think it is the worst thing in the world, but screen-free days will encourage physical activity and more family time. That is a win for everyone.
