Matthew and Noah are reading the book the LA teacher assigned to the class. Matthew read 4/6 of it, and Noah read 5/12. Who read more? Use common denominators to prove your answer. 

The common denominator is 12. I multiplied the numerator and the denominator by 2 to find an equivalent fraction, which gave me 8/12 which is greater than 5/12. Matthew read more because 8/12 > 5/12.
