Who did Rehoboam ask for advice from? Whose advice did he follow?

Rehoboam asked for advice from the elders who had served his father Solomon. The elders advised him to be a servant to the people and ease the heavy labor imposed by Solomon. Rehoboam's childhood friends suggested he increase the burdens on the people. Rehoboam followed the advice of his friends, leading to the division of the kingdom.

Twice, David could have easily killed Saul. Once in the cave and the other when he found Saul's camp at night

Saul died by falling on his own sword after being wounded in battle against the Philistines on Mount Gilboa (1 Samuel 31). Saul's armor-bearer refused to kill him at his request, so Saul took his own life.

David committed adultery and murder. He saw Bathsheba bathing and committed adultery with her while her husband Uriah was away at war. When Bathsheba became pregnant, David attempted to conceal his sin by recalling Uriah and orchestrating his death in battle.

Both were not great. Although he was good at first, Jeroboam introduced idolatry and  golden calves for worship in the northern kingdom. Rehoboam refused to ease the burdens on the people, leading to the rebellion of the northern tribes.
