Pick someone to come up to the board and draw an label accurately:

1. Enzyme

2. Substrate

3. Active Site

Mrs. Rubalcaba will determine right answer

100

What is the whole point of cellular respiration?

To make ATP

100

Where does fermentation take place?

cytoplasm

100

Where in the cell does photosynthesis take place?

chloroplast

100

Fill in the blanks:

Exergonic – _________ energy

Endergonic – _________ energy

Exergonic – release energy

Endergonic – use energy

200

Enzymes speed up chemical reactions... therefore they are called what?

Catalysts

200

Explain to me how Glycolysis makes 4 ATP but we only say it makes 2 ATP.

2 ATP are used to split glucose in half to make 2 pyruvic acid molecules

200

How much energy does fermentation make?

0 ATP

200

What are the reactant(s) of the light dependent reaction?

light and water

200

What element makes up glucose and pyruvic acid?

carbon

300

In a one word answer, what do organisms use to make/convert into ATP?

Food

300

Pyruvic acid is made from what monosaccharide?

glucose

300

What is the one consistent (same) product made in lactic acid and alcoholic fermentation?

NAD+

300

Where does the H come from in NADPH?

Hydrogen from water splitting

300

What two things do animals give to plants and what two things do plants give to animals?

1. Carbon dioxide; water

2. Oxygen; glucose

400

Think back to the first day of this unit. Amylase is an enzyme. Where can we find this enzyme in our body?

Mouth/Saliva

400

Tell me about FADH2 and NADH and their role in cellular respiration

(i.e. where are they made, what do they do, where are they headed)

Made in the Krebs Cycle (NADH also made in Glycolysis) on their way to the ETC to drop of electrons

400

What are the two reactants of fermentation?

Pyruvic acid and NADH

400

Explain to me how C6H12O6 is made?

C and O come from Carbon Dioxide and H comes from NADPH

400

Describe to me how sun energy ends up allowing us to make ATP in our human bodies.

Plants take in sun energy to make glucose through photosynthesis. We take in glucose to go through cellular respiration to make ATP.

500

Fill in the blank: Phosphates in ATP don’t want to stay together because they are all __________ charged

Phosphates don’t want to stay together because they are all negatively charged

500

Pick someone to come to the board and accurately write the CHEMICAL equation for cellular respiration

  6O2 + C6H12O6 ----> 6CO2 + 6H2O + energy

500

What two things does glycolysis make for fermentation and what is the one thing fermentation makes for glycolysis?

1. pyruvic acid; NADH

2. NAD+

500

Explain to me the pathway of energy in photosynthesis.

ATP and NADPH are made in the light-dependent reaction for the Calvin Cycle. Energy is used to go from ATP to ADP. NADPH drops of electrons and Hydrogen to become NADP+. ADP and NADP+ head back to the Light Dependent Reaction.

Why do we need both glucose AND ATP in our cells?

ATP is the energy source for cellular work. In order to make ATP, we need glucose to go through cellular respiration. Therefore we need both :)
