The band members seem to be in favor of having Bud stay with them. Bud mentions that Mr. Calloway will “ruin everybody’s fun.”)

It is an example of onomatopoeia, The effect it has on the text is showing how Bud is intentionally being loud, so the band knows he is coming. It is his way of warning them that he is coming to the kitchen and was not sneaking around (which he had been sneaking around).

The name was suggested because when Bud met the band at the restaurant the night before he broke down crying at the table. The name was out of order because it was intended to make Bud feel bad or humiliate him. The idea of the nickname was to show belonging, not to separate from the group.
