What is a codon?
A set of 3 Nitrogenous Bases
Gene expression starts where?
DNA, in the Nucleus
When a population of Bacteria become resilient to a medication or antibiotic, it is called
Antibiotic Resistant
The Hydrogen included in hydrogen bonds have what kind of charge?
Partial Positive charge
This occurs when mRNA is created from DNA.
Transcription
Substitution is what kind of mutation?
What about Deletion and Insertion?
Substitution is Point, Ins and Del are frameshift
The receiver of a ligand (message), that transmits a message from the outside of a cell to the inside of the cell
Receptor Protein
The bonding of macromolecules through the removal of water
Dehydration Synthesis
This occurs when tRNA, mRNA, and Ribosomes meet up to create polypeptides
Translation
The role of operons in a DNA System
Can identify when to activate a gene by inhibiting a preexisting inhibitor, or by activating a dormant protein by changing the proteins shape or adding energy
What kind of mutation has the least likely chance to incur a change in the final shape of a protein?
Point Mutation
The breaking down of Macromolecules through the addition of water
Hydrolysis
What is the Role of tRNA in PS?
tRNA recognizes the codons of the mRNA strand and identifies the corresponding amino acid, that is then covalently bonded to others to form a polypeptide chain in order to create a protein
Environmental factors can elicit changes in the body, these changes are prompted in the body through specific genes on a DNA strand. What is this called?
Gene Expression
What kind of mutation is most likely to cause a misfolding of its protein?
Frameshift
The presence of double bonds increases or decreases the ability for a molecule to fold?
Decreases
Quickly summarize protein synthesis
DNA is prompted to express a gene, it is unwound and a copy is made through transcription. The resulting mRNA strand leaves the nucleus where it meets with a ribosome and tRNA. tRNA reads the mRNA Codons (translation) and chains together the proper amino acid sequence into polypeptides. When done they fold into the proper protein.
Why do you think genes are not expressed at all times
Genes and structure take time and energy, meaning that our body has to decide when to have them activated. Also some genes expressed would contradict others, or not fit the correct scenarios.
Mr Ayala recently attended a wedding. What were the first names of the Bride and Groom?
Bonnie and Daniel
What causes an Algal Bloom?
Nitrogen and Phosphorous
