The structure of Atmosphere 4.1
7.2 Atmospheric pollution and its causes
7.3 Impact of atmospheric pollution
General
100

What is the name of the atmosphere layer that is closest to earth

Troposphere

100

Define  ozone depletion

reduction in the concentration of ozone in the ozone layer.

100

What type problems can pollution/smog cause

Respritory problems

100

Where is the ozone whole located

The ozone hole is located over Antarctica

200

What is the most abundant gas in the atmosphere

Nitrogen

200
What are the 2 gasses cars and factories produce that's cause pollution

so2 and nox

200

WHat is the global issue caused by green houses which leads to increasing temperatures

Climate change/global warming

200

What is the stratosphere

An atmosphereic layer containing the ozone layer and located over the troposhere

300

What is the ozone Layer?

It acts as a protective shield, absorbing harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun, particularly UVB rays. This protection is crucial for life on Earth, shielding us from the potentially damaging effects of UV radiation.

300

What chemical causes the ozone whole

CFC
300

What is smog and what causes it?

Smog isa hazy, polluted cloud formed by the interaction of air pollutants, primarily ground-level ozone and particulate matter, with sunlight and other atmospheric conditions.

300

Define fossil fules

Fossil fuels are naturally occurring, combustible materials formed from the fossilized remains of ancient organisms

400

Define The natural green house affect

The natural greenhouse effect is the process by which the Earth's atmosphere traps heat from the sun, keeping the planet warm enough to support life

400

Defnine acid rain

Acid rain is precipitation with a pH value of less than 6 (see Section 4.8). The acidity results from

burning fossil fuels in factories and power stations, which release sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides

into the atmosphere. Vehicle emissions add further nitrogen oxides. This is dry deposition. If these

gases mix with water vapour and oxygen in the atmosphere, weak solutions of nitric and sulfuric

acids are created, which can then be moved by winds. These solutions will eventually fall to Earth

as acid rain and can occur at some distance from the source. This is wet deposition.

400

What causes acid rain

Acid rain is caused by a chemical reaction that begins when compounds like sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are released into the air .

400

Name one case study studied in class about smog

London smog

500

Name all layers of the atmosphere ( in order)

troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and exosphere.

500

Define Inversion

Usually, air gets cooler as you go higher in the atmosphere. However, sometimes a layer of warm air sits above cooler air near the ground, trapping it.

500

Name one case study studied in class about acid rain

China

500

What is the coroisisphere and what are the charerteristics

PRANK DOESNT EXIST
