What are the stages of Complete Metamorphosis?
Egg, Larva, Pupa, Adult
100
What do the arrows in a food chain represent?
The flow of energy
100
What is a food web?
Many food chains linked together.
100
What role do plants have in a food chain or web?
They are producers.
200
Give one example of a way humans change ecosystems.

Give one example of a natural event that will change an environment.

Answers will vary

Humans-Oil spills, building roads, homes, stores, etc.

Natural changes-Hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, drought, etc.

200
What are the stages of Incomplete Metamorphosis?
Egg, Nymph, Adult
200
What is a herbivore, carnivore, and omnivore?
Herbivore=eats only plants

Carnivore=eats only meat

Omnivore=eats both plants and meat

200
In a food web, which organisms receive the MOST energy?
Producers
200
What is the process called when plants make their own food?
Photosynthesis
300
Define the term ecosystem.
Ecosystem-the living (biotic) and non-living (abiotic) things in an area that depend on each other.
300
What do roots provide for a plant?
Water and stability in the soil.
300
What is an organism?
Any living thing, both plants and animals
300
In a food web, which organism receives the LEAST amount of energy?

A) Producer

B) Secondary Consumer

C) Tertiary Consumer

D) Decomposer

C) Tertiary Consumer
300
What three things do plants have to have for photosynthesis?
Water, Carbon Dioxide, and Sunlight
400
What would happen to birds in a Rainforest ecosystem if humans cut down the trees to build new homes and stores?
They would either move to a new location or die.
400
During what stage in their life cycle and plants reproduce?

A) Seedling

B) Mature Plant

C) Young Plant

D) Sprouting Seed

B) Mature Plant
400
Define consumer, producer, and decomposer.
Consumer=must eat to get energy

Producer=makes its own food

Decomposer=eats dead organisms (plants and animals)

400

What is the difference between predators and prey?

Predators=Hunters

Prey=Being hunted

400
What do plants produce during photosynthesis?
Oxygen and Glucose (sugar)

A student observing birds in a park records some ways that birds interact with living and nonliving parts of their environment. All the following observations are ways that a bird interacts with nonliving parts of its environment except —

F reacting to morning sunlight by singing

G drinking and taking a bath in a puddle of water

H responding to cold temperatures by fluffing its feathers

J feeding insects to its chicks

Describe the differences between Complete and Incomplete Metamorphosis.
Answers will varry:

Complete metamorphosis has 4 stages and a BIG change occurs. The larva and pupa stage are the biggest differences between complete and incomplete metamorphosis. Larva is worm-like, Pupa is a cacoon or chrysalis.

Incomplete nymph stage is a smaller version of the adult with no wings.

500

What is a decomposers role in a food chain or food web?

Decomposers break down dead plants and animals and return nutrients to the soil to help living plants grow.

500
Describe what would happen if all of the primary consumers in a food web died.
The producers would increase, because their predator would be gone.

The secondary and tertiary consumers would decrease from lack of prey.

Explain the Carbon Dioxide-Oxygen Cycle.
Plants take in Carbon Dioxide for Photosynthesis and produce Oxygen, Animals and humans breathe in the Oxygen produced by plants and breathe out Carbon Dioxide that the plants will take in, and the cycle continues.
