Classify Stars
Low Mass Stars
High Mass Stars
100
A collection of stars, clusters, and nebulas held together by their own gravity.
What is a galaxy?
100
Color and temperature, size, chemical composition, apparent brightness, and absolute brightness.
What is the classification of stars (5 ways)?
100
Nebula-> protostar-> Main Sequence star-> Red giant-> Planetary Nebula-> white dwarf-> black dwarf.
What is the life stages of a low mass star?
100
Nebula-> protostar-> Main Sequence star-> Red super giant-> supernova-> neutron star-> black hole.
What is the life cycle stages of a high mass star?
200
Stars, clusters, and nebulae.
What are galaxies made up of?
200
Color and temperature- Stars color reveals temperature. Size- most stars are the size of the sun, some are larger. Chemical Composition- 73% hydrogen, 25% helium, 2% other. Apparent Brightness- the brightness seen from earth. Absolute Brightness- the brightness the star would have if it were a standard distance from the earth.
What is explaining the classifications?
200
Nebula- Where a star comes from. Protostar- the beginning of the star that forms the nebula. Main sequence- hydrogen reactions inside that pruduce light and heat. Red giant- loses hydrogen and is left with helium so the star swells. Planetary nebula- a ring shaped nebula formed by an expanding shell of gas around an aging star. White dwarf- a small very dense star thats typically the size of a planet. Black dwarf- a hypothetical stellar remnant, created when a white dwarf becomes sufficiently cool.
What is Life cycle stages?
200
Protostar- fetus Fusion ignition- infancy Main Sequence- adulthood Red giant/ super giant- middle age Black hole- old age, death
What is the relation of a human life and the life of a star.
300
Based on the shape of the galaxy.
What is how galaxies are classified?
300
It shows the relationship between the surface temperature and absolute brightness of stars.
What is the Hertzsprung- Russell Diagram (HR diagram)?
300
Protostar- fetus Main Sequence- Infancy- Adulthood Red Giant- Middle age White Dwarf- old age Black Dwarf- death
What is the relation between to a human life?
300
It shows what type of star it is by its fingerprint.
What is the importance when using a spectroscope.
400
Lightyears- the distance light travels in one year. Astronomical units- The mean distance between Earth and the Sun.
What is how distances are measured in your galaxy?
400
Proxima Centauri.
What is the closest star to Earth.
400
We can tell young stars from older stars and tell the stars' fingerprint.
What is how spectroscopes are useful?
400
Our sun is in the amin sequence stage.
What is where is our sun located
500
A graph used to classify a type of galaxy.
What is a tuning fork diagram?
500
Polaris and Vega
What is the two north stars?
500
Our sun is in the main sequence stage. OUr sun is classified as a G2.
What is the stage and loaction of our sun on the HR Diagram?
