A group of classes required for a certain program.
What is a major?
Someone who provides guidance on course enrollment, academic progress and graduation. All students receive at least one of these once they are a student at UNK.

What is the Loper (Antelope)?
The amount of money owed after all financial aid has been applied.
What is a student accounts balance?
Money that students receive to help pay for college expenses. This includes student loans, grants, and scholarships.
What is Financial Aid?
A group of courses that a student takes in addition to a major.
What is a minor?
Courses that are not required for your major or minor.
What are electives?
This activity provides the opportunity for students to play their favorite sport or try a new sport on a competitive or recreational level.
What are intramurals?
The amount that the university charges for classes.
What are tuition and fees?
This online form must be completed each year to receive need-based aid from the government and includes the Pell Grant, work-study awards or federal student loans. Also known as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
What is the FAFSA?
A student who takes 12 or more credits per semester.
What is a full-time student?
Required courses that all students must take to graduate and provide a foundation and well-rounded education.
What are general studies courses?
A student who lives off campus while attending college (does not live in a campus residence hall or fraternity or sorority house).
What is a commuter?
The cost associated with living on-campus (housing) and having a meal plan.
What is room and board?
This type of financial aid does not need to be repaid. The money can come from individuals, organizations, or from the college/university.
What is a scholarship?
Specific times that faculty are available to meet with students in their office.
What are office hours?
An official list of classes and grades received from a high school, community college, college or university.

What is a parking permit?
This type of financial aid must be repaid. This money either comes from the federal government or private lenders/banks and must be repaid.
What is a loan/student loan?
A document that provides course information and typically includes the instructor’s contact information, required books, course schedule and assignments, grading scale, etc.
What is a syllabus?
The minimum number of credits a student must complete to graduate with a degree from UNK.
What is 120 credits?
30 credits of general studies + credits required for major/minor + elective courses.
A student who works for Residence Life, lives on-campus and serves as a resource for other students living on-campus.
What is a Resident Assistant (RA)?
A payment plan offered through the Student Accounts office to spread the cost of a student's account balance over several months rather than paying the balance in full by the due date.
