EMERGENCY DE-ENERGIZE CIRCUITS
BAY-O-NET FUSES - UNDERGROUND
URD TRANSFORMER CHANGE - US
ENTER/EXIT SUBSTATION
100

Are required perform switching

Two trained utility employees (UE) must be present when switching, and employee performing switching must be a qualified utility employee (QUE) or apprentice under direct over-the-shoulder supervision from a QUE.

100

The emergency number for System Control

What is 780-412-4911

100

The effect of a blown Bay-O-Net fuse

what is de-energize transformer but leaves primary circuit intact.

100

Is required to remove or install the center lid

What is two people and proper lifting techniques.

100

Must be done prior to entering a Substation and when exiting

the Authorized Worker will use the Substation Access Tracking System (SATS) to record the number of crew members, contractors, and/or visitors and the reason for the entry. The Authorized Worker must comply with any Warnings or Restrictions applied to SATS by System Control.

Rubber Gloves are required to __________? (4 choices)

Opening doors to equipment (live-front or dead-front) that will expose energized conductors.

ii. Installing parking stands or feedthroughs.

iii. Installing or removing covers or barriers.

 Note 1: Rated rubber gloves must be worn when opening doors. After cabinet is open and no imminent hazards are found, appropriate protective gloves relevant to the task performed may be worn.

200

The phrase used to de-energize in an emergancy

say “EMERGENCY, EMERGENCY. DE-ENERGIZE CIRCUIT X” (identify your circuit to be de-energized).

200

first thing to do when investigating a blown Bay-O-Net

Vent transformer with hot stick while checking for smell of exhaust.

 Note: Do not de-energize transformer with Bay-O-Net fuse if “burnt” smell is noted when venting.

200

First step to Isolate

Open secondary breakers on either side of isolated transformer to prevent back feed.

200

Used to record purposes of the visit to the Substation

What is the Station Logbook

300

This is required when switching Live Front Equipment

What are Switch sticks used on underground apparatus has a 650mm limit of approach distance marked with non-conductive white paint as well as a raised fiberglass warning ring. Depending on stick orientation, ensure both hands stay on orange or both hands stay on white to ensure limit of approach distances are maintained.

300

information required to de-energize a circuit in an emergency

What is the circuit ID

300

De-energizing from a remote location is required when?

All US type transformers.

Where worker is positioned directly over transformer.

Damaged or leaking transformers.

Tilted transformers.

Transformer emitting a “burnt” smell when vented.

Transformer making unusual noises.

Transformer hot to the touch.

Other abnormal conditions.

300

Secondary connections

Check all connections at secondary moles, confirm they are tight and secure with heat shrink installed but not shrunk or install Network submersible boot style fuse covers.

300

If issues with entry at a High Security Substation

contact Duty Security Advisor 1-780-222-1397.

400

Required by the non-switching partner on live front gear

What wearing rubber gloves as a precaution against incidental contact while in proximity of exposed energized equipment. and..

must be actively involved and fully engaged in switching process:

400

If the transformer tests okay, and the cause of the blown fuse is known, you can?

Isolate and Re-energize locally.

400

If you find oil

Hydrovac, crane with containment.  ERS.  Follow Oil spills procedure

400

You are the first and only crew at a substation

The Employee in Charge is the Site Safety Coordinator and must be identified on the main entrance signage at the substation.

500

Equipment that cannot be switching while energized

PS TX If macarda board barriers have been removed or are missing

PS Transformer with removable solid blade switches

PS Transformer with fixed solid blade switches

500

You've replaced a Bay-O-Net fuse and re-energized from a remote location.  You find zero Volts on the secondary.  What is happening?

The Current Limiting Fuse that is connected in series with the Bay-O-Net and inside the tank has likely blown.  The Tx must be replaced.

500

Outage Notifications are required

>3hours in duration or businesses.  Effects Traffic lights

500

As additional work crews arrive at the substation, a change in the designated Site Safety Coordinator may be appropriate who is chosen?

Employee in Charge of the crew with the most overlapping common safety issues (typically the most extensive working zone) should be designated as the Site Safety Coordinator.
