Describe the conditions for African slaves aboard slave ships.


Life on a slave ship seems crowded and uncomfortable. Slaves were forced to live in close quarters. This lack of privacy was probably humiliating. I wonder if it also led to the spread of disease. The slaves were forced to wear shackles which was probably painful. I remember reading Equiano’s account where he wrote that he was so miserable that he did not want to eat and wondered if he wanted to die.
