What was Shays Rebellion?

Farmers in western Massachusetts who couldn’t pay their taxes faced jail and seizure of their land. The state government refused to help. Farmers rebelled  by closing courts and releasing people from jail.

What was the Great Compromise? 

The Great Compromise was an agreement made among the delegates to the Constitutional Convention that the American government would have two houses in Congress: the Senate where each state has two Senators, and the House of Representatives where each state has a number of Representatives based on population.

Federalists supported a whiskey tax as a form of consistent revenue for the US government. Farmers attacked and destroyed homes of tax collectors as a way to protest the tax.

South worried that Congress might try to tax the crops the South traded with other countries. Southerners also worried that Congress would use its power over trade to end the slave trade

The Founding Fathers believed that compromises on slavery were the price for the support of southern delegates for a strong central government

Case that decided the National Bank was constitutional and could not be taxed by a state
