These requirements apply to all employees and contractors driving a vehicle for company business.  This includes company-owned or leased vehicles, rental vehicles, and personal vehicles used for company business.  A vehicle is any motorized piece of equipment that includes but is not limited to cars, pickups, trucks, tractors, forklifts, golf carts, ATVs, cranes, etc.

How long can an emergency phone call last? 

Cell phone calls to address urgent business needs should last approximately one minute.  For urgent company business needs that require a longer discussion to resolve, the driver will end the call and pull over into a safe location before returning the call.

If you (the driver) feel drowsy, let someone else drive if there is a qualified and licensed driver available; otherwise, drive off the roadway, park in a safe location, and contact your supervisor/manager.

Can I use the phone for non-emergency reasons if it is in "hands-free mode?"

Using a cell phone for voice calls, including using the cell phone in hands-free mode, is prohibited.

When can I "nose in" a parking spot? 

Only in situations where the parking configuration does not allow pull-through or back-in (i.e., angled or parallel parking) will pulling forward into a parking space be allowed.

What information do I need to obtain if I am involved in an MVI? 

Names, addresses, and telephone numbers of drivers and passengers of other vehicles involved and all witnesses.

Drivers’ license numbers of other drivers involved.

License numbers, makes, and models of other vehicles involved.

Insurance information (company, policy number, and agent).

Names and badge numbers of investigating officers.

Drivers of vehicles must ensure that all occupants wear seat belts.

Can I use my phone as a navigational aid? 

When using portable electronic devices as a navigational aid, the device shall not be used to distract the driver, and the driver is prohibited from inputting information unless the vehicle is parked.  Single tap/touch interactions while driving are permissible, provided they are performed consistently with the exercise of good judgment and all applicable laws and regulations.  Single tap interactions include but aren’t limited to silencing alarms, acknowledging route changes, or initiating/terminating a voice call allowable under Section 1.10.2.6.

How do I ensure there are not obstructions before departing? 

Drivers are required to perform a 360 walk around the vehicle before operating the vehicle to check for any potential obstructions.

Do I need a work order to inspect he fire extinguisher in my truck monthly? 

You can have a work order, but it is not a requirement for all vehicles. All fire extinguishers in vehicles shall be inspected monthly by the vehicle operator.

How do I avoid "rolling" the UTV?

Avoid paved surfaces that may adversely affect handling and control. Never operate at speeds on inclines too fast or too steep for the conditions for safe operation. REVERSE operation can be dangerous, even at low speeds.  Steering becomes difficult.  To prevent flip-over, avoid sharp turns.
