An axle is passed through the center hole of this part, which allows it to spin freely.
What is a bearing?
A small contact-sensitive sensor that is that detects the metal piece being pressed.
What is a limit switch sensor?
Parts can turn better against each other when this part is in place.
What is a washer?
A toothed wheel that works with others to alter the relation between the speed of an engine and the speed of the driven parts.
What is a gear?
Electrical connection between the motor and the microcontroller that provides control of the direction in which the motor turns.
What is a motor controller connection?
A standard nut that includes a toothed "crown" designed to bite into a mounting surface and prevent the nut from slipping.
What is a Keps nut?
This analog sensor measures angular position.
What is a potentiometer?
A thick metal or plastic ring that can be locked down on an axle to keep it, or parts on it, from moving side to side.
What is a shaft collar?
This flat gear that has teeth along its length and is used to create linear motion from rotary.
What is a rack gear?
Heavier-duty part that provides motion to the robot.
What is a 393 motor?
This plastic fastener consists of two parts and is used to hold the VEX bearing flat and in place on the structure system
What is a pop-rivet?
A high-durability sensor designed to detect physical contact. This is a digital sensor.
What is a bumper switch sensor?
Allows two rods at different angles to rotate together.
What is a universal joint?
A type of gear that is a single tooth, wrapped around a cylinder like a screw.
What is a worm gear?
This small (usually gold) part is used to mount all motors
What is a motor screw?
A type of spacer that can be set to remain stationary at any given point along an axle.
What is a collar?
This sensor focuses on the lighting of surfaces.
What is a line tracker?
A flat structural part used to provide a mounting surface for other robot parts.
What is a plate?
Toothed gear that changes direction of motion by 90 degrees.
What is a bevel gear?
Use every time you use a motor in a high torque
setting, between the motor and whatever the motor
is turning.
