What is "CMS"?
The department in charge of front line troubleshooting for all things related to video conferencing Didn't get connected? No audio/video? This is who you call.
Who is Tier 1?
The direction of a call that require a classroom facilitator to either push a "join call" button from a navigator panel or manually enter a call ID/SIP URI to connect.
What is "Dial-In"?
The hardware (or software) that encodes/decodes data. This hardware is the core of our traditional IVC classrooms.
What is a codec?
The new platform for monitoring events, troubleshooting, and endpoint management.
What is Mividas Core?
Used to bridge together multiple classrooms and/or users, this multipoint control unit is often referred to as this acronym.
What is the "MCU"?
The department in charge of escalated video issues including network configuration and new room certifications.
Who is Tier 2?
The management tool for the CMS server. You can use this tool to monitor and manage live video conference events.
What is CMM or the Cisco Meeting Manager?
The touch controller for Cisco codecs. Also known at the "iPad lookin' thingy?
What is a navigator panel?
Direction of calls scheduled to auto-connect. Calls go out from UEN infrastructure to connect the classroom codec.
What is "Dial-Out"?
This piece of equipment connects devices in a network together, allowing them to communicate by exchanging data packets. It is often found in a classroom or data closet rack.
What is a switch?
You call this department when you have questions about scheduling, need training, or want to learn about the latest and greatest features of desktop conferencing tools.
Who are the Distance Education Specialists or "Logistics"?
This acronym refers to the "Join Now" button that appears on a classroom navigator panel if auto-connect is not available. Hint: there is only one button to touch.
What is "OBTP"?
A desktop conferencing platform beginning with "Z" that became very popular during the pandemic. It includes features like persistent whiteboards, Canvas integration, breakout rooms, advanced quizzes/polling, and more.
What is Zoom?
This is the acronym for a Conference Room Connector, which is required by Zoom to connect a SIP based conference/classroom room to a Zoom meeting.
What is a "CRC"?
This commonly used acronym refers to the video server codecs are registered to for SIP registration. Is also has dialing and connection rules.
What is the "VCS"?
This department is commonly known as "The Daves". They are responsible for building out and maintaining the backbone of the UEN IVC system, classroom design, and evaluating new technologies.
Who is Application Engineering?
This standard network protocol for voice and video communications is used to initiate a session. Each classroom codec is given an address using this protocol for scheduling and/or dialing. Also something you do with a tasty beverage.
What is SIP?
A desktop conferencing tool developed by Cisco that has been used with our statewide network for many years. It provides a variety of new features including AI assistant and the integration of Miro for white boarding.
What is Webex?
The ability for difference video conferencing solutions to work with each other.
What is interoperability?
The acronym used to refer to your SIP dialing address, also known as a uniform resource identifier in network terms.
What is a "URI"?
The phone number used to reach Tier 1 support for live video conference troubleshooting or help or escalating bigger issues.
What is 1-800-863-3496, opt. 1, opt. 1?
An open-source project that allows for real-time audio, video, and text communication between web browsers and devices. Cisco's version is known as CMA or the Cisco Meeting App.
What is WebRTC?
Technologies that allow a user to appear present, feel like they are present or have some effect in a space the person does not physically inhabit. A term used by Cisco for their traditional IVC classroom equipment.
