Are students required to complete work while quarantined?
Yes. Quarantined students are expected to complete the daily work assigned to their class. It is also expected for quarantined students to stay on track with their classmates and be ready for any quiz or test when they return.
Are Study Guides provided for the tests?
Yes! There is a Study Guide for your student to complete for each unit prior to the test. Unlike other subjects, these study guides are not just for the answers. They are about being able to work through the problems and get the correct answers. Students are usually given multiple days to complete the study guides and then they are reviewed/discussed in depth before the test.
Who are the 8th grade math teachers?
Ms. Bertani; Ms. Bryant; Mrs. Caglioni; Mrs. Campbell; Mrs. Harris & Mr. Taylor.
Is there tutoring available?
Help sessions are offered during ELT (extended learning time) and occasionally in the mornings before school begins. No afternoon sessions will be offered until EXP begins (if it begins).
When is homework due?
Homework is due the next day. However, if it is not complete, students get 1 additional day without penalty.
Should a student wait until they return from an absence or quarantine to get their work?
NO! All assignments are posted on Canvas. If you do not have a printer at home, assignments can be completed on notebook paper.
Are quizzes/test on paper or Canvas?
Both! Your student will complete the quiz/test on paper, then input their answers on Canvas (for immediate feedback). Paper copies are then turned into the teacher for reference during quiz discussions and test corrections.

What if my student can't get here early for help?
Help sessions will be offered during ELT.
What happens if my student does not have homework done on the day it's due?
The teacher will make note of the missing assignment, but the student will still have an additional day to complete it without penalty. It is the student's responsibility to show it to the teacher the following day to receive credit.
How do you submit work when you are out?
Completed assignments can be uploaded through Canvas. Look for the assignment title and upload it in the assignment upload area.
Are there study sessions before the tests?
Yes! Study sessions will be announced before each unit test. A morning option and an ELT option will be offered.(most of the time)

Is there additional help on Canvas?
Yes. Teachers publish additional videos, notes, activities and Power Points for students to view if they need additional support.
Is late work accepted?
Yes, but only until the unit test day.
Where can assignments be located?
All daily assignments can be found on Canvas in Modules. They can be printed or completed on notebook paper.
What if my student fails a quiz? Can they re-take it?
Under normal circumstances, no, quizzes cannot be re-taken. Students are encouraged to study/prepare for quizzes. Quiz re-takes are given under extenuating circumstances and are at the teacher's discretion.
What should my student be checking online daily?
Students should check their Office 365 email account, Canvas inbox and announcements daily for messages from their teacher.
Are help sessions mandatory?
No, but highly encouraged.
When is the last day late work can be turned in?
Late work will only be accepted within the current unit. All assignments are due on the unit test day. Extenuating circumstances may occur and changes to this policy are at the teacher's discretion.
What if my student is sick, not just quarantined?
Please communicate with your student's teacher if your student is sick. That is very different than being quarantined. Quarantined students are expected to complete the daily assignments and keep up with their classes' instruction. If your student is sick, they will be given additional time to complete the make-up work. Please do not assume that your student's teacher is aware of the situation. An email will ensure that the teacher knows your student is sick and the additional time will be given.
What if my student fails a test? Can they re-take it?
Test re-takes are given under extenuating circumstances and are at the teacher's discretion. However, all students must complete test corrections. Test corrections (error analysis) is a mandatory assignment for some but not all teachers. For teacher's that make it mandatory, these are counted as a second test grade. This ultimately creates an average of the two grades. This encourages students to prepare for the tests since the original text grade does not get dropped.
Can my student use a calculator?
Yes! It is encouraged that your student have their own calculator, but classroom sets are available. Please refer to your student's math syllabus for name and type of calculator suggested. The syllabus can be found on Canvas.
If my child attends a help session, do they get extra points?
No. CCSD will not allow us to offer extra credit. However, these session are available to help them get more comfortable with the content and build confidence in their math ability.
