What is PromisePlus?
This service is known to provide a free service for students with children who want to pursue their academic journey, and typically are between the ages of 18-24, meet the federal poverty line and attend classes at GCC.
What is CalWorks?
This social program is free of charge and is full of communities where students can join to obtain a sense of belonging, community, and to learn more about their culture. But unfortunately international students are unable to participate.
What is Student Equity and Learning Communities?
Technology support, finals week support, free testing materials (ex:bluebooks), $100 book store voucher, food voucher for the cafeteria, and (sometimes) gas cards, fall under what category.

This service offers academic, career, and personal support services completely free for GCC students.
What is counseling?
Financial aid assistance, California’s version of TANF, and other academic, transfer, and career counseling services fall under what category.

Four different communities are included in student equity and learning communities.
What (“is”) are Black Scholars, La Comunidad, APIDA, and Rising Scholars?
Counselors from the PromisePlus department teach these courses.

Education planning, Transfer planning, Student strategies support, major exploration assistance, and personal counseling services fall under what category.

Students attend these events, that are only available to them because they are in “the program" to obtain better understanding of basic questions regarding the college, ones personal academic path, and financial aid

Counseling does not directly provide this service, unless it's through Promiseplus, but it does direct students toward other departments on campus that do.

Calworks has two sister programs that collaborate together through workshops and they co-host events.

In order to apply to be a part of Student Equity students need to fill out an application. Student Equity has a specific application type.

Students are encouraged to follow through with this action each semester to ensure they are on track, are prepared, and have a chance to ask questions

What is San Rafael 227?
Student Equity offers field trips to these specific places in order to ensure that students who are a part of their communities can see what academic options are available for them as they continue on the path to reach their academic goals.
What (“is”) are trips/tours to universities in both Northern and Southern California? (This includes to HBCU - Historically Black Colleges and Universities)
Unlike other departments, CalWorks does not require this from students in the program, although it is recommended.
