Where is the health center located?

Can I get my teeth cleaned and get glasses?

Yes the dental and vision outreach van usually comes 1-2x a school year. The vision van will give you and thorough exam and fit you for glasses if needed. The dental van will clean your teeth. The dentist at the health center can fill cavities, pull teeth, do X-rays and get you out of pain.

Who will see/know my information?

You and your parent/Guardians will be able to access information via patient portal. We will not release information to the school unless we have your permission.

I am behind on vaccinations and need a physical. Should I go to health center or emergency room?

Health Center for sports physicals and work permits. We are able to do vaccines and issue medications if needed. We have a pharmacy that can deliver to the school or your home. You can not get the medication until 7th hour.

When is the health center open?

During the school year, we are open Monday-Friday from 7:30-4pm for medical appointments. Tuesday-Thursday for dental appointments.

I want to work or play a sport, can the health center sign the paperwork?

Yes if you had a physical at the health center in the past year. One physical per year. We can also give vaccinations if you are due.

Will my information be kept confidential?

All information will follow HIPAA guidelines. We are not allowed to share any information with anyone unless we have ROI. Unless we feel you are at risk of harming yourself or someone else. That information must be reported.

I am not feeling well and think I have a cold/UTI/rash. Should I go to the emergency room or health center?

Non life threatening allergic reactions/rashes go to health center. Trouble breathing/high fever/chest pain/life threatening allergic reactions go to closest emergency room. Coughing up blood/uncontrollable bleeding and severe pain go to emergency room.

I have not seen a dentist in a long time. My tooth used to hurt but does not anymore so I do not need to see the dentist. True or false

False. You should see the dentist regularly.

Can I just walk in to the health center or do I need an appointment?

You must have a hall pass to be seen in the health center. We do take walk-ins for medical but not dental services. If you walk-in you may have to wait until we see scheduled appointments. We recommend you make an appointment to get you in and out faster.

My period is late, should I go to the health center?

Yes we can do a pregnancy test and STD testing. We can also discuss birth control options and Plan B if needed.

Can I be seen without my parent/guardian?

Yes if you have consent on file. If not, we must be able to talk to parent/guardian first.

I cannot move my arm and see that it is broken where should I go?

Emergency Room. If you think is is broken go to the emergency room. If you are having numbness/tingling sensation in your body or extreme pain go to the ER. If you think have sprain/strain go to the health center.

We are struggling at home and sometimes we do not have access to essential items like water, soap, deodorant and shampoo. I noticed I smell at times, could I come to the health center?

Your personal hygiene is very important to you both your physical health and mental health.

Do I need insurance or is it free to be seen at the health center?

It is not free but we can see anyone regardless if they have insurance or not. We do bill through insurance. If you do not have insurance, we would set you up with a discount application.

Will the school or my parent/guardian know why I was at the health center?

The school will know that you were at the health center and time you sign in and out. The will not know why you were at the health center unless you tell them or tell us to speak with someone in the school. Unless it is a minor confidential visit, your parent/guardian will be informed about your visit to the health center.

I need STD testing, plan B, or a pregnancy testing. Where should I go?

My sexual partner has an STD. I do not have any symptoms. I do NOT need to be tested. True or false 

False you should still be tested. Some people show symptoms and some people do not.  If you are sexually active you should be tested every 6months. We recommend you get tested sooner if you have symptoms, been exposed to STD, or have multiple partners. Not getting the proper care can have long term issues.

What is a minor confidential visit?

A confidential visit offered to anyone over the age of 12. Minor confidential visit include-pregnancy test, Plan B, condoms, STD testing and treatment.

I am having suicidal thoughts at home. Where should I go?

If you are having these thoughts at home go to the emergency room. Do not wait until the next time you are back at school. If you are at school, go to your teacher, counselor, school nurse or health center. Poisoning/overdose go to nearest ER.

False - You are not protected. Unless you want an unplanned pregnancy come to health center to discuss birth control options.
