What is it called when liquid water changes into water in its gas form?
Evaporation

True or false? Ice is less dense than water.
True
100
What kind of surface will cause water to bead up?
A waterproof surface

A mosquito landing on the surface of the water shows
Surface Tension

In the lab where we put droplets of water on a penny, the water made a dome. What caused the dome to break, causing the water to spill?
The surface tension broke
200
What is it called when water changes from its gas state to its liquid form?
Condensation
200
What is a dome-shaped bit of water called
A Bead

Absorb or Bead up? Water on a sponge
Absorb
200
A foggy mirror after a hot shower describes
Condensation

In the lab where we made thermometers, what happened to the green liquid when we placed the thermometer into warm water?
The green liquid moved up the tube. The water particles expanded when they were heated.

Name 4 types of precipitation
rain, snow, sleet, and hail

True or false? Water contracts as it gets colder.
True

Absorb or Bead up? Water on waxed paper
bead up

An ice cube floating in your drink explains
Density

We did a lab where we placed items like a cork, a coin, and a wooden bead into water. The cork and the wooden bead both floated. Why did the coin sink?
The coin is more dense than water, so it sank.
400
What do you call water in its gas form?
Water Vapor

Name the property of water that allows a mosquito to land on top of the water.
Surface Tension
400
Absorb or Bead up? Water on a Nickel

The liquid in a thermometer rises when it is heated shows how heated liquids

400
Name one way that water will move more quickly on a slope.
Either of the following is acceptable: -Larger droplets -Steeper slope
500
Describe what happens in the water cycle.
The sun causes liquid water to evaporate. As the water evaporates, it becomes tiny particles called water vapor, which is water in its gas form. The vapor condenses into water droplets to form clouds. Once the clouds become to heavy with droplets, precipitation falls from the sky in the form of rain, sleet, snow, or hail.
500
Explain how water moves on a slope
Water moves downhill on the slope because of gravity.
500
Absorb or Bead up? Water on a rug
Absorb
500
The liquid in a thermometer moving down when it is cold shows how cooled liquids
Contract

When we placed syringes and vials of water in the freezer, the syringe moved out and the lids popped off of the vials. Explain why this happened.
When water freezes, it expands. (This is a unique property of water. )
