What is Refraction?
Refraction is when waves split as they pass from one medium into another because their speed changes
What is reflection?
Reflection is when waves bounce back.
What is Absorption?
Absorption is when a wave comes in contact with a medium and causes the mediums molecules to vibrate and move.
What is scattering?
Scattering is when light bounces off an object in a variety of directions.
What is Diffuse reflection and specular
diffuse reflection is when light bounces off a rough surface, specular is when light bounces off of a smooth surface

Surf waves line up parallel to the beach.

Diffuse reflection is when a wave of light reflects off a surface and scatters or goes in different directions
What is Interference?
Interference is when two waves travelling in different directions meet, they combine their energies and form interference patterns.

The amount of scattering that takes place depends on the wavelength of the light and the structure of the object.

A standing wave is a wave pattern that oscillates (moves back and forth repeatedly) in place without actually traveling anywhere. A jump rope is a good example of a wave standing.
