What is CAREER RESEARCH?
Students are placed in workplace environments to develop and practice career-related knowledge
and skills for a specific career field related to the student's career interests, abilities, and goals
(HSBP) where student progress is overseen by a Worksite Supervisor.
What is a PLACEMENT/UNPAID INTERNSHIP?
Student led business/enterprise that provide goods or services and are operated from the school
campus utilizing facilities, equipment, and other resources provided by the school or CTE
department. The student-led business/enterprise is specific to a CTE course where the instructor
provides guidance, but students guide and inform the business plan.
What are SCHOOL-BASED ENTERPRISES?
Students are placed in workplace environments to learn about a specific industry or occupation
related to the student's career interest, abilities, and goals (HSBP) where they are paid wages or
other compensation to work for an employer for a specific period of time where student progress
is overseen by a Worksite Supervisor.
What is a PLACEMENT/PAID INTERNSHIP?
Students participate in targeted career exploration with professionals who have occupational
experience related to a CTE course or career cluster who provide guest speaking, mentoring to increase understanding for success in the career path.
What is a GUEST SPEAKER SERIES/CAREER MENTOR?
Students participate in programs that have been formally recognized by the Washington State
Apprenticeship Training Council (WSATC) as an apprenticeship preparation program or are
registered as an apprentice with Labor & Industries (L&I) and participating in an apprenticeship
program registered in Washington.
What is a APPRENTICESHIP PREPARATION PROGRAM/REGISTERED APPRENTICESHIP?
Students participate in targeted career exploration with professionals who have occupational
experience related to a CTE course or career cluster who provide guest speaking, mentoring, or job
site tours to increase understanding for success in the career path.
What is a STRUCTURED FIELD TRIP TO RELATED JOB SITE?
Students create, own, and operate a business related to their CTE course that provides goods
and/or services to the marketplace.
What is an OWNERSHIP/ENTREPRENEURSHIP?
Students plan, conduct, and evaluate a project designed to provide a service to public entities or
the community that must provide benefit to an organization, group, or individuals. The project
must be of suffiecient scope to enable development and demonstration of skills and competencies
related to their CTE course.
What is COURSE RELATED SERVICE-LEARNING PROJECT?
Students in health and medical science courses integrate knowledge acquired in the classroom
with clinical practice in a variety of healthcare settings with patients. Clinicals are required as part
of the student's certification program and onsite supervison is required.
