This process describes how water moves in the Earth's atmosphere
What is the water cycle.
100
Draw a picture of hot air molecules vs. cold air molecules.
Hot air: molecules are further apart, move faster, and the air is less dense Cold air: molecules are closer together, move slower, and the air is more dense
100
What happens when air passes over a mountain?
The air cools and the molecules spread out. The cooling causes precipitation (rain, snow, or hail).
100
This instrument measures temperature
What is a thermometer?

This person predicts the weather and reports it on television, radio, or the internet.
What is a meteorologist?

List the steps of the water cycle, in order, start with water collecting in the ocean.
Evaporation -> Condensation -> Precipitation -> Runoff -> Accumulation
200
When it is daytime and the land is heated up more than the ocean, this type of wind is created.
What is a sea breeze?

A fast-moving cold air mass overtaking a warm air mass is called...
What is a cold front?
200
The four types of fronts.
What are cold front, warm front, occluded front, stationary front.
200
The state of the air at a certain time and place
What is weather?
300
This is part of the water cycle because it causes evaporation
What is the sun?
300
Winds blow on earth because...
Wind is caused by differences in the atmospheric pressure. When a difference in atmospheric pressure exists, air moves from the higher to the lower pressure area, resulting in winds of various speeds. On a rotating planet, air will also be deflected by the Coriolis effect, except exactly on the equator.
300
The BOUNDARY where air masses meet/collide.
What is a front?
300
How is the climate affected at the equator vs. the poles?
At the equator it is hotter overall, at the poles it is colder overall.
300
When air in a balloon is cooled does it expand (molecules go apart) or contract (molecules go together)?
Contract (molecules go together)
400
Gravity affects the water cycle by...
Causing precipitation to fall back down to earth.
400
Draw a compass rose and label the four directions.
What are north, south, east, and west?
400
The blanket of air surrounding the earth.
What is the atmosphere?
400
When water in a body of water (like a lake) is heated by the sun and turns into water vapor.
What is evaporation?
400
The weather of a place over a long time
What is climate?

Describe how clouds form in 2-3 sentences.
When warm air rises, it expands and cools. Cool air can't hold as much water vapor as warm air, so some of the vapor condenses onto tiny pieces of dust that are floating in the air and forms a tiny droplet around each dust particle. When billions of these droplets come together they become a visible cloud.

How does the uneven heating of the land and sea cause land breezes and sea breezes?
n the day, when the sun is up, the land heats up very quickly and the air above it warms up a lot more than the air over the water. The warm air over the land is less dense and begins to rise. Low pressure is created. The air pressure over the water is higher with cold dense air, which moves to occupy the space created over the land. The cool air that comes along is called a sea breeze. In the night, the reverse happens. The land quickly loses its’ heat whiles the water retains its’ warmth. This means the air over the water is warmer, less dense and begins to rise. Low pressure is created over the water. Cold and dense air over the land begins to move to the water surface to replace the warmer rising air. The cool breeze from the land is called a land breeze.
