The wind direction
200
What is a cumulus cloud?
Cumulus clouds are the lovely, puffy ones that are good for finding shapes in.
200
How does water move from the earths surface into the air?
The Sun's heat provides energy to evaporate water from the Earth's surface (oceans, lakes, etc.). Plants also lose water to the air (this is called transpiration).
200
What is humidity?
It is the moisture in the air

What is a Stratus cloud?
Found at very low levels. They are thick, large, heavy-looking gray clouds that dominate the sky. Precipitation normally does not occur with this cloud, although drizzle or mist may be observed.
300
What happens to evaporated water from earths surface?
The water vapor eventually condenses, forming tiny droplets in clouds.
300
What does precipitation mean?
Precipitation is rain or snow that falls on an area

Why are the oceans salty?
As water flows through rivers, it picks up small amounts of mineral salts from the rocks and soil of the river beds. The water in the oceans only leaves by evaporating (and the freezing of polar ice), but the salt remains dissolved in the ocean - it does not evaporate. So the remaining water gets saltier and saltier as time passes.
400
What does a Barometer measure?
Air Pressure
400
What is a cirrus cloud?
Cirrus clouds are very high, thin and wispy looking. These clouds generally occur with fair weather and are the ones usually responsible for those beautiful midwestern sunsets.
400
What is runoff?
Most of the water returning to the earth, flows downhill as runoff (above ground or underground), eventually returning to the seas as slightly salty water.

How is Doppler Radar used?
It is a radar tracking system using the Doppler effect to determine the location and velocity of a storm, clouds, precipitation, etc.
500
What is a cumulonimbus cloud?
Cumulonimbus clouds are tall, puffy and gray. They can't hold all of their water droplets which fall as rain, snow or hail. They may bring thunder and lightning.
500
What is ground water?
Some of the precipitation soaks into the ground. Some of the underground water is trapped between rock or clay layers; this is called groundwater.
