History of Events
Our first event of the Spring semester featured cookies, hot cocoa, paper flower folding, and bracelet making. This was held on February 17th to celebrate this "holiday" late.
What is Valentine's Day?
Over the course of the year, I have had 5 total plants in my room. Out of these 5 plants, I have killed this many.
What is 1?
Dickinson hosted this RAP group, with about 16 (I think?) students attending a first year seminar class (in the Webster classroom).
What is the first year CNS RAP?
Orchard Hill used to be (get this) a bountiful orchard before it's conversion to a residence area completed in 1964. It coined its name from this rather common fruit tree present before its transformation.
What is an apple tree?
On November 18th, a fire broke out in this part of the Orchard Hill area.
What is the observatory?
The very first House Council event of the year offered Insomnia Cookies, coloring, bracelet making, and other sorts of crafty activities. Despite it being the first event, we got a late start, as it was held in this month.
What is December (5th, specifically)?
The number of current (official) Webster/Dickinson House Council members.
What is 2?
The Orchard Hill observatory previously used to house a 20" telescope, before it was found to have a crack, then being replaced with a new telescope of this size instead.
What is 16"?
The name of this 19th century figure from which Dickinson got it's title.
What is Emily?
On September 3rd, the very first day of classes, a bomb threat was called into Dickinson due to this unusual cause from a package received at the RSD.
The Webster entrance housed this February 18th event titled "Welcome Gnome", where residents could make these "living crafts" to bring back to their rooms.
What is a gnome garden?
Aside from rooms for RAs, PMs, and the RD, Webster and Dickinson combined offer this many single residencies.
What is 0?
Prexy's Ridge is the unofficial name for the type of woodlands surrounding the observatory.
What is an old growth forest?
Technically, the wonderful residence hall encompassing half our cluster is called Dickinson *House*. Dickinson *Hall*, named after Captain Walter Mason Dickinson, is home to this program instead.
What is ROTC?
This event spurred a 3am gathering in the bowl (and for one brave soul to go fishing in the pond) on September 25th.
What is the power outage?
On April 23rd, there was a House Council event with boba tea abound. There was also a screening for this movie.
What is Ponyo?
Frank and Woo are equidistant (approximately) from WeDi, both measuring this far away from the cluster.
What is 0.3 miles (or ~0.5 kilometers)?
I went tick collecting in the woods north of Orchard Hill a couple days ago, catching between 30 and 40 ticks of these two species (name at least one).
What is a deer tick/dog tick?
This lexicographer and pioneer of the modern English language is to thank for giving Webster it's name.
Who is Noah?
Over the last half of winter break, part of Dickinson lost wifi connection after a window was left open, freezing and bursting the pipes in this room.
What is the IT room?
On April 17th, there was an event that featured Insomnia Cookies, lawn games, and a (relatively easy) egg hunt, with this many eggs hidden around the outside of the cluster.

Webster and Dickinson both sport some of the larger standard room options of the first year residence halls, with this much area of space per room.

Orchard Hill soil was the source of this microorganism, named PB-8-23, found to produce antibiotic compounds.
What is a bacterium?
Jonathan Quick, Marcus Camby, and Julius Irving were all former residents of Orchard Hill. In addition to their living connection, they also shared this profession.
What is NBA player?
According to the Town of Amherst Police Department (public) call logs, since the start of the Fall 2024 semester until the end of March 2025, this many police and/or 911 calls were initiated from Orchard Hill.
