What is the symbol and exponential notation for the prefix hecto?

1x10^2

100

What is the definition of a physical change?

What is the definition of a chemical change?

Physical: A change in matter which does not alter the chemical properties of the matter

Chemical: One chemical substance is transformed into one or more different substances

100

What is a group on the periodic table?

What is a period on the periodic table?

-A group (also known as a family) is a column of elements in the periodic table of the chemical elements

-The horizontal rows are called periods

100

What is matter?

Anything that has mass or takes up space

100

What is the formula for density?

D= m/V

200

What are some of the base SI units?

Length --> meter (m)

Mass --> kilograms (kg)

Time --> seconds (s)

Temperature --> Kelvin (K)

Amount of a substance --> mole (mol.)

Electric Current --> Ampere (A)

200

What scientific perspective can physical and chemical changes can be observed?

Macroscopic

200

What element is located in the 6th period, 2nd group?

Barium

200

What is special about the atoms of an element?

Elements are composed of atoms with identical physical and chemical properties

200

What are the threw viewpoints of Chemistry?

(Bonus: Define each perspective)

Macroscopic, Microscopic, Symbolic

300

What is the magnitude of a?

a --> atto therefore 1x10^18

300

You bought some bananas at the grocery store and forgot about them. Now they are rotting. Is this a physical or chemical change?

Chemical Change

300

In comparison to Alkali Metals, is Alkaline earth metals more reactive, less reactive, or have the same level of reactivity with oxygen?

Less reactive

300

How do liquid particles move?

Bonus: Why is this important?

Particles are quite close together and move with random motion throughout the container

Particles move rapidly in all directions but collide with each other more frequently than in gases due to shorter distances between particles

Michael buys several bags of balloons. On the package, it says that each bag has 100 balloons. He opens the bags and only one of them has 100 balloons inside; the other bags either have too many or too few.

How would you describe the bag of balloons with 100 balloons inside?

Accurate, but not precise

Reasoning:

This bag is accurate because it provided the correct number of balloons, however, the process is not precise as the results were clearly not repeatable. Accuracy deals with how close the measurement got to the accepted measurement. Precision deals with how consistent the measurement is. The bag with 100 balloons inside matched the claim made on the bag, meaning it was accurate. It was not precise because the other measurements show that the number of balloons is variable.

400

What is the prefix associated with the magnitude tera? Also include is symbol.

1x10^12

400

You are folding a piece of paper into a paper airplane then throw it. The airplane accidentally lands in a paper shredder. Is this a physical or chemical change?

Physical change

400

What group on the periodic tables is know to have very reactive element and these elements are considered metals?

Bonus: What's the name of these metals?

Group 1A

Alkali Metals

400

Saline has many uses in medicine. It's used to clean wounds, clear sinuses, and treat dehydration. What kind of mixtures are Saline solutions?

Homogenous! This is because the particles are distributed uniformly in the solution, why it is safe to use for medical purposes

400

Chemical formulas, electron density formulas, and line-bond formulas are all examples of what perspective of chemistry?

Symbolic

500

Since are measurements are decimal-based, what power is this based on?

Power of 10

500

What are the physical and chemical changes involved in burning wood?

Burning of wood is a example of both physical and chemical change! When wood is burnt the moisture present in it turns to vapour ,it is a physical change while it burns and generate CO2 is a chemical change

500

What are all the diatomic molecules?

Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Oxygen, Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine, and Iodine

500

What is the difference between a pure substance and a mixture?

A pure substance consists only of one element or one compound

A mixture consists of two or more different substances, not chemically joined together.
