How do we come to art?

Your class should be lined up by number (alphabetically) in the hall behind the red tape, quiet and facing forward. You need to wait to be invited into the classroom by Mrs. Gabriel.

100

Explain Rule 1: Listen when the teacher is talking.

Please, do not talk when Mrs. Gabriel is talking. It is rude. It is disrespectful. It wastes our time.

Be sure you are facing the teacher, not talking, hands and body are not moving, and have your eyes on Mrs. Gabriel.

100

Where do I sit?

Staying in line order, Mrs. Gabriel will help to tell you your spot then it will be the same each time.

100

How do we know it is almost time to leave art?

A timer will go off 10 minutes before the end of class on Mrs. Gabriel's cell phone.

You can also look at the timer on the board.

100

How do I earn rewards?

How do I earn consequences?

You earn rewards by doing the right thing and by going above and beyond Mrs. Gabriel's expectations.

You earn consequences by breaking the rules.

200

What do you do after entering the art room?

Grades K - 3 = sit on the carpet quietly, show Mrs. Gabriel you are ready to listen

Grades 4 & 5 = go to your assigned seat quietly, show Mrs. Gabriel you are ready to listen

200

Explain rule 2: Follow directions quickly.

Please complete the steps to do our projects in a timely manner. You do not need to rush. However, you need to meet the daily goals to complete your project by the due date. If you talk too much, you will get behind. Try not to be a perfectionist. Its ok - art is not perfect. Try your best. Ask for help if you need it - I am happy to help.

200

Why are there color baskets on each table?

They help to tell us the color of that table group. This is where we will store art supplies as we need them. Please do not touch the baskets until you are directed. One of the jobs at the tables will be to pass things out from the baskets and trays.

DO NOT GRAB SUPPLIES.

200

What do we do when the timer goes off?

Put your name and teachers name on the back of your art.

Put your art away.

Clean up your spot and do your art job.

Show Mrs. Gabriel your table group is ready to line up.

200

What is the happy and sad Mona Gabriel board?

It is on the front board. It shows Mrs. Gabriel smiling and frowning. She will put tally marks up under these faces to help you know how your class behavior is doing.

300

What are the numbers and colors for?

You will see the colors of the rainbow numbered 1-4. This keeps people in order so Mrs. Gabriel can learn your names, gives you space, and helps use art materials in the best way. The colors and numbers tell us where our seats are, what our art jobs are and where our place is in line. They keep us organized. They help to prevent arguments and makes the art room run smoothly.

300

Explain rule 3: Work quietly.

Stay focused and do your best on your project. You may talk in a level 1 voice (indoor voice) to people at your table but please keep your voice down. If the teacher talks, you should get silent immediately. Do not yell out or yell to people at other tables. This is not a social time. You can have fun, quietly.

300

Why is there tape on my chair?

It helps to label your color and number.

Please do not pick at the tape.

Do not tip in your chair.

300

How do we line up to leave?

Mrs. Gabriel will call the tables she sees are ready to line up first. You will go to the same color and number tape spot on the floor and face forward with no talking. Mrs. Gabriel will open the door when the line is ready.

How does our class earn PAWS or Dojo points?

How do students earn rewards?

By following the class rules and having a great art class. This allows your class to have access to fancy art supplies, early finisher projects and free art time.

Mrs. Gabriel will be keeping her eye out for students to earn rewards for going above and beyond with their work, to help peers, and to help the classroom.

400

How do we show Mrs. Gabriel that our table is ready to line up at the end of class?

- Your work is put away.

- Your art jobs are done. (Your table/area is clean.)

-You are quietly sitting at your spot looking at Mrs. Gabriel with a thumbs up.

400

Explain rule 4: Raise your hand.

Raise your hand to ask Mrs. Gabriel questions or for help and please, do not shout out.

400

How do you act at your table groups?

Follow the art rules.

Be kind and respectful.

Be helpful.

Do your best.

400

What do I do if I need to go to the office, nurse or guidance?

You will raise your hand to ask Mrs. Gabriel for permission or come over and speak to her privately when it is a good time.

Do not shout out.

You will put the pass necklace on and put it back when you return.

400

What happens if our class is not able to follow directions, use materials wisely and/or stay on task?

We will start with 5-minute silent art class.

We may lose materials.

Then, we will lose art class and have to clean up and sit with our heads down or write reflection papers until the end of art.

If there are individual students who are continually making bad choices, they will have silent lunch and/or not be able to participate in the next art class until an apology letter is written.

500

What happens if I need to go to the bathroom or leave the room?

**PLEASE GO TO THE BATHROOM BEFORE CLASS. We only have art for 40 minutes every 6 days, do not waste it in the bathroom.

Emergencies only - raise your hand, ask for permission, you will put the orange cone at your spot, put the bathroom pass on your neck and go. When you return, hang the pass up and put the cone back.

500

Explain rules 5 & 6:

rule 5: make smart choices

rule 6: clean up after yourself and others

rule 5: do the right thing, be respectful, treat materials correctly, follow directions, be kind, be sweet, be helpful, be your best self

rule 6: put away things you have used, pick up things you may have dropped, if you see something that needs to be cleaned, picked up, thrown away or put away - please, do it, even if you did not leave it.

500

What are art jobs?

Art jobs are assigned by your table number. They will change each time you have art. You are all responsible for leaving your table and area looking its best before you leave! SO be helpful and kind!!

500

What happens if there is a fire drill?

A tornado drill?

A lock down drill?

Please listen to Mrs. Gabriel explains - remember there is NO TALKING during any of these. This is practice for an emergency, and we need to be silent so we can hear what to do.

500

What happens if a student feels upset, angry or needs to have some space from others?

Please try to talk to Mrs. Gabriel about this. We will work out a solution.

You may also be able to visit the reflection corner to calm down and then rejoin the group when ready.
