What is slope-intercept form? What information does it give you?
y=mx+b | m=slope | b=y-intercept
100
What are the steps for MULTIPLYING scientific notation?
Multiply factors, add exponents (Remember MULTIPLY then ADD)
100
What is the slope formula?
(y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)
100
What makes a number RATIONAL?
FRAT: F=fraction of integers (this includes WHOLE NUMBERS because you can put them over 1 to make them fractions) | R=repeating decimal | A=amazing square root of perfect square (gives you a whole number, NOT a decimal, when put in calculator) | T=terminating decimal(does NOT have a "..." after it)
100
The line of best fit on a scatterplot should be where in the data?
In the middle of all the data points. It does NOT matter how many data points it actually goes through.
200
What is always true of the x-value of the y-intercept?
The x-value of the y-intercept is always ZERO!
200
What are the steps for DIVIDING scientific notation?
Divide factors, Subtract exponents (Remember DIVIDE then SUBTRACT)
200
What equation should you immediately think of when you see a right triangle, and what part of the right triangle does each letter represent?
a2+b2=c2 | a=leg (touches right angle) | b=leg (touches right angle) | c=hypotenuse (opposite right angle)
200
What makes an equation nonlinear? (Remember, we added two things, so it is now 5 letters)
VETAS: V=variable in denominator (bottom of fraction) | E=exponent on variable | T=two variables multiplied together | A=absolute value of variable | S=square root of variable
200
If a problem gives you a scatterplot and asks you to make a PREDICTION, should you look at the line of best fit or at the given data points?
Always look at the Line of Best Fit to make predictions.
300
If you are given f(x)=4x/6 and g(x)=(2x+1)/5, and asked to solve for x when f(x)=g(x), what is your first step?
Cross multiply! 5(4x) = 6(2x+1) Then you would distribute to make it 20x = 12x+6
300
"There are ________ in a thing. How many are there in __________?" tells you to do what operation?
Multiply! -The order of numbers does not matter.
300
If a problem gives you multiple prices for multiple size packages, what formula do you use to find the best buy?
unit price = total price/number of items (dollar sign always goes on TOP!)
300
If a lines goes DOWN from left to right on a graph, is its slope positive or negative? Draw an example graph.
Negative
300
When you are asked to order numbers from least to greatest, greatest to least, or to place numbers on a number line, what is the first thing you should do?
Convert every number to a decimal! Then, compare digits in the same place value, beginning at the left.
400
What must you do if a problem gives you 2x+4y=6 and asks you to find the slope?
This equation is given in standard form and gives you no information. You must put the equation is y=mx+b form, by solving for y (getting y by itself). Only after you have done this can you look at what is attached to x, and this is your slope.
400
"How much more/less/closer/farther/etc. is___A___ than ___B___" tells you to do what operation and in what order?
Subtract A - B (whatever comes before the word THAN goes first in equation and whatever comes after THAN comes after subtraction sign)
400
What must you always check before you plug numbers into d=rt?
Check to make sure that the units of Distance and Time match the units of Rate. If they do not, you must convert to make them match.
400
What should you do if a d=rt problem gives you a RATE and TIME for one part of a trip, a separate RATE and TIME for another part of the trip, and then asks you to find the DISTANCE over the entire trip?
Set up TWO separate D=RT equations to find the individual distances for each part of the trip, then ADD the two distances to find the total distance.

Draw a contextual graph in which the money in Ms. Vekilov's bank account is increasing, then remains constant, then decreases.
Graph should have positive slope, then straight horizontal line, then negative slope
500
If y=1/2x+8, what is the value of y when x=10?
Plug in 10 wherever you see x in the equation, and solve for y. y= 13
500
"How many times larger/smaller is ___A___ than __B___" tells you to do what operation, and in what order?
Divide A/B (Whatever comes before the word THAN goes first, then divide that by whatever comes after the word THAN.
500
When you see a system of equations, such as 2x+4y=8 and 3x+2y=12, what is the first thing you need to do?
You want to get one of the variables to have the same coefficient (number in front of it) in BOTH equations. Here, the easiest thing to do is to multiply the second equation by 2 to make both equations have a "4y" term. You would then look at the sign in front of these terms to determine whether you add or subtract the equations. Here, they both have plus signs, so SAME SIGN - SUBTRACT, so we would have to CHANGE EVERY SIGN in the second equation, then combine like terms between the equations.
500
If an original number is much smaller than one (such as 0.0000000245), will its exponent in scientific notation be positive or negative?
Negative - The exponent for numbers LESS THAN 1 is always NEGATIVE. And for numbers GREATER THAN 1 (such as 53,000,000,000), the exponent is POSITIVE.
500
On a graph, what makes differences seem LESS SIGNIFICANT?
A LARGER scale (counting by larger numbers; for example, counting by 10's rather than 1's) makes differences seem LESS significant. A SMALLER scale (counting by smaller numbers; for example, counting by 1's rather than 5's) makes differences seem MORE significant.
