Make sure you have Hannah’s visuals with you and show her where you are going. Then, back up. Give her space and time. If she begins to hit her head on the lockers block her, but keep your words to a minimum. Every minute show her the visual of where she should be. When she is upset she does not like anyone in her bubble.

Soren is refusing to his work but he is sitting the safe seat.

Ask him if he is okay and bring the work over to him so he can participate - he may get upset and this is when you can say “you can ask to go on a walk” or “you can say that you need a minute” If he can repeat and ask for what he needs grant it. Check back in a work with him once he is ready.

  1. Anything highly reinforcing removed

You are supporting Greyson in class. He begins making noises and tipping back in his chair. Miss Kestel redirects him to stop, but he continues. What should you do?

Remind Greyson that he was asked to stop, and if he cannot stop he will be docked on his chart. If he continues, prompt Greyson to take a reset. Remind him when he is taking a reset (in The Cave)  he is not in trouble and he is getting his brain and body reset to be in class. If he refuses to text Nielsen or ask Kestel to text his team to come take him for a reset. We want to catch it early!

Jackson is not following directions and/or is having a hard time in class or during group. How do you proceed? 

Take a Jackson off his chart, present his choice board and let him choose an option from there, reinforce how good he is currently doing with his mario chart. Give lots of specific positive praise, give high energy and excitement to any positive behaviors shown

If Aaiden (or other students) starts to argue, what should you do?

Stop talking and prompt to take a break. Let the classroom teacher know and let her take over the behavior.  They will call for support from the admin/case manager. Do not get into a power struggle.

You have gone to what is on your schedule but there is someone already there or the class is doing a different activity and you are unsure if you”re needed or where else you could support… What should you do?

Check-in with the case manager and make sure the student/support is just going to look different that day but is still needed, if not then check the side of schedule for things not covered and go support there until your schedule has you somewhere new.
