What is the role of Full-time staff?

Full time staff oversees therapeutic/inclusive programs and are responsible for ensuring the overall success of the program. They may create program schedule, train part time staff and handle the majority of the program communication with parents and guardians.

What are the main staff roles during an actvity?

facilitator: main communicator, demonstrator, still assists with verbal prompts but relies more on support staff to offer physical or hand over hand support. 

support staff: offer hand over hand support, reiterate facilitator examples, support with adaptations, demonstration, engage in activity and motivate participation. 

motivator: checks in on participants that are orbiting the group or those who are not actively participating and tries to motivate them to join and assists those who need breaks.

What is something crucial that should take place at the beginning of the week to ensure that all staff are on the same page.

During an emergency, to notify full time staff of something work related and if you have received prior approval from full time staff.

Why is it improtant to arrive on time to work with a positive attitude?

to ensure that there is appropriate time for program set up and staff are well supported. When you show up with a positive attitude it is contagious. The same can be said for a negative attitude.

Once the vehicle is parked what is the procedure for existing the vehicle and ensuring the space is safe?

staff should exit the vehicle first, examine area for potential safety concerns, have the participants line up in an orderly fashion and conduct a sweep of the vehicle for participants and items. 

*Their should be at least one staff leading the group and one staff at the back of the group.

- ask if they would like support

- hand over hand support

- hold paper form them while they cut or they hold the paper while you cut

- determine if other size markers or crayons work better

- starting project for them and letting them finish may be helpful.

A participant is flipping tables and throwing chairs. How do you respond and what are the next steps. 

Stay calm and collected. Perform a room Clear (do you have a code word). Determine roles, which staff stays back which staff goes with group. Get the group to leave the room/space. Keep the upset participant back and offer distance. Ensure safety and call for back up if needed. Call 911 if the situation becomes dangerous. Keep fulltime staff informed.

How can a fulltime staff support you?

When participant requires a break, participant is pulling staff out of ratio, a participant is exhibiting disruptive behavior and staff have made no progress in resolving the issue a full time staff can fill in.
