Time Limit
The amount of time an individual is expected to complete a bachelors' degree in
4 years
A participant started pursuing a BA degree in Bio Tech in Fall 2016. In 2018 the participant transferred to a BA degree in Business with our approval and all credits transferred into the degree in Business. By the end of which semester is this individual expected to complete the BA degree business?
Summer 2020 is technically the last semester of the 2020 academic year so this person has through Summer to complete the degree. (Will accept Spring 2020 since that is traditionally the last semester of the year for most students).

If a participant gets a denial letter from FAFSA the first year they apply, do they continue to reapply every year?
YES!! Circumstances can change and we are not experts in FAFSA, we should ask all participants to apply for FAFSA each year to identify if there are any comparable benefits available that need to come in before our funding.
Which Ivy League law school did Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) attend in Legally Blonde
Harvard
The amount of time an individual is expected to complete a MS degree in?
The number of years the college has identified as the timeframe for completion of the MS degree, typically 2 years
A participant has given us documentation from a qualifying source that they can only attend college part time, no more than 8 to 10 credits per semester. We agreed to sponsor them in an AA degree. What is the expected time frame that this person will complete the AA degree?
2 years. If someone is attending college part time they are still expected to complete the degree within our time frames and should look for ways to be able to transfer eventually to full time or make up the additional credits in mini semesters. The VRC can consider funding up to 2 additional semesters after 2 years but the expectation is still that the person complete the degree in 2 years and this must be discussed with them.
This is the MSG we can take for a college student after reviewing their grades
Post Secondary Transcript
A participant attends NTID at RIT. He does not meet financial need. He is living on campus and the cost of interpreter services is covered under room and board. He wants to know what college costs we can provide funding for if any?
Actual cost of room and board if we document that cost for room and board is more cost effective than paying for interpreter services and any other non-FN based services that are required.

An individual completed 80 credits towards a BA in Dance prior to their current case with ACCES VR. We have agreed to provide funding towards a BA in Accounting. 30 credits from the 80 credits the individual completed toward the degree in dance will be accepted as transfer credits by the college toward the degree in accounting. How long does this individual have to complete the BA in Accounting without taking into account any additional semesters being approved?
3 years. 30 credits is the equivalent of 1 year worth of full time credits at most colleges therefore when someone transfers in with 30 credits they have used 1 year of their time frame.

A participant is planning on taking a 3 credit course during a Summer semesters at a college that follows a 2 semester academic calendar (not a trimester or mini-semester college). Assuming you agree that the need for that class is in our line with our policy, you already funded full time tuition for Fall and Spring. Are you able to provide any funding towards tuition for this 3 credit course?
Yes, up to the published SUNY/CUNY rate for tuition for 3 credits only

If someone is attending a private school, receiving funding in comparable benefits such as TAP, Pell or SEOG that is greater than ACCES VR's annual maximum funding limits but there is still a balance left on the student's bill for tuition, fees and room & board. Can ACCES VR put in funding if the person meets financial need?
Yes, we can put in up to our policy limits, as needed, if there are college costs that are not covered after comparable benefits were applied.

A participant is pursuing a 4 year degree and completed 4 academic years as of Spring 2020. Fall 2020 is the first additional semester the VRC has approved. The participant plans to a take off Spring 2021. Will Spring 2021 be counted as the 2nd additional semester?
No! Spring 2021 would not count as one of the additional semesters as the participant didn't attend.
Bonus question if the participant didn't attend a semester during the first 4 years they pursued a 4 year degree would that semester count as part of the time frame for completion?
True or False: A transcript showing a student completed 12 credits with a GPA of 1.5 is an MSG we should claim
False!
A participant attended college and we provided funding for full time tuition for Fall 2020 and Spring 2021. The participant wants to attend Summer 2021 and take 6 credits. The reason for the classes to be taken in Summer meet the criteria outlined in policy. We have already spent $800 on books and $600 in fees from Fall and Spring. Is there any funding we can give for Summer 2021 without a CO waiver?
Yes! $200 for books and up to SUNY/CUNY rate for 6 credits of tuition.
A participant has had an open case with us since 2016 and began pursing an AA degree in Fall 2016. They obtained the AA degree in May 2020. They now would like to start pursuing a BA degree in Spring 2021. Since it took this person 4 years to complete the AA degree do they have any time left to complete a 4 year degree?
Yes! The time limits to complete college "resets" with each degree. Since this person completed a AA degree and is now starting a BA degree, the only thing we need to understand is how many (if any) of the credits from the AA degree are being accepted as transfer credits towards the BA degree.
