What made Mattityahu and his sons revolt?
The Greek King Antiochus banned Jews from publicly practicing Judaism, trying to instead get them to Assimilate into the Helenistic (Greek). In about 168 BCE, Greek soldiers forcibly gathered the Jewish villagers and told them to bow down to an idol, then eat the flesh of a pig – both practices that are forbidden to Jews. A Greek officer ordered Mattathias, a High Priest, to acquiesce to their demands, but Mattathias refused. When another villager stepped forward and offered to cooperate on Mattathias' behalf, the High Priest became outraged. He drew his sword and killed the villager, then turned on the Greek officer and killed him too. His five sons and the other villagers then attacked the remaining soldiers, killing all of them.

What is the difference between a Channukiah and a Menorah?
A Menorah has 7 branches and a Channukiah has 9. In the time of the temple, the Menorah, with its 7 branches represented the days of the week, with one candle being slightly above the others to represent the holy day of Shabbat. The Channukiah, with it's 9 branches, has spots for the 8 candles representing the 8 days the oil burned, and one for the candle that lights all of the other ones.

What is the difference between a Dreidal in Israel and everywhere else in the world?
Outside of Israel, a dreidal has 4 letters: Nun, Gimmel, Hay, and Shin. They stand for the phrase "Nes Gadol Haya Sham," or a great miracle happened there. In Israel, the dreidal replaces the Shin with a Peh, representing the word "Poh," meaning here. A great miracle happened HERE, not there.
