What is implicit bias?
The lack of material goods or economic means that creates stress and is highly associated with poor mental health.
What is poverty or low SES?
The members of a school community that help set the tone and culture of the school and determine the values to be reinforced.

The acronym for this framework is MTSS.

This process is a critical element of school culture and learning and a key success factor for students and adults.
What is SEL?
This family engagement framework includes the following components: parenting, volunteering, decision making, communicating, collaborating with the community and learning at home.
What is the 6 types of parent involvement framework?
Things like having warm and supportive relationships, a strong sense of connection to school, and having necessary school and community resources.
What are protective factors?
The level of the social ecological model that refers to the quality of relationships with others (family, peers, teachers, etc.).
What is the interpersonal level?
This tier is associated with screening & early identification strategies.
What is Tier 2?
The ability to manage one’s emotions, thoughts and behaviors effectively in different situations and to achieve goals and aspirations.

This model helps us understand what it means to share power with youth.

This intervention only accounts for 10-20% of individual’s health status/outcomes.
What is medical care or clinical treatment?
A whole school framework that utilizes an MTSS approach, that is grounded in caring relationships, and that prioritizes emotional and physical safety of students.

SEL curriculum, mental health first aid, and trauma-informed practices fall under this tier.
What is Tier 1?
The ability to understand the perspectives of and empathize with others, including those from diverse backgrounds, cultures and contexts.
What is social and cultural awareness?
Adults use youth to promote or support a cause without informing youth.
What is decoration?
The term for children/youth that refers to the social, environmental, economic, and physical conditions in which we live learn work and play.

Schools are considered dynamic and influential systems because of these 4 Ps.
What are people, programs, practices, and policies?
This tier only provides support to 1-5% of students.
What is Tier 3?
This goal of this type of prevention is to restore someone who has been diagnosed with a condition to the highest level of functioning given the condition and to prevent further deterioration or relapse.
