Why they matter: Why are oceans so important to humans?
Oceans supply fish and other seafood that form a major source of protein for a billion people.
Overview: Why can't trees grow in great numbers here?
There is too little rain.
These lands are covered in grasses and grass-like plants. This area can support animals such as; zebra, antelope, and bison.
Overview: "Marshes and ponds, the edge of a lake or ocean, the delta at the mouth of a river, low-lying areas that frequently flood" what are these places?
Wetlands, which is a place where the land is covered by water, either salt, fresh or somewhere in between
Overview: The Artic has suffered these issues...
Climate change, pollution, development by the oil and gas industry, and overfishing.
Overview: How are deserts characterized?
Their lack of rainfall.
Why they matter: What do Ocean waves, winds, and currents offer?
Sustainable energy supplies.
Threats: What did humans do once they moved into the land which causes threats to animals?
Plowed the land to make room for farms, replacing wildlife with herds of livestock and hunting and killing key species.
Overview: What do the wetlands support?
the cultivation of rice
Threats: What does "overfishing" mean?
Humans are taking fish out of the water faster than fish can reproduce and be replaced.
Which means there's a decline of fish species and that threatens the future of important fisheries.
Threats: What are the three threats listed?
Population growth, Unsustainable groundwater extraction, and Climate change.
What WWF is doing: what does MPAs stand for?
Marine Protected Areas
Threats: why is hunting a threat?
When hunting is not controlled or is conducted illegally, species can be wiped out
Threats: What are the three threats towards the wetlands?
Pollution, climate change, and dams.
Threats: Which two species are mentioned when discussing climate change and the affect it has on their habitat?
Animals such as polar bears and walruses are losing habitat.
Why they matter: What species is particularly well suited to hot, dry conditions.
Reptile species.
What is WWF Doing: In Galápagos, what does WWF want to ensure that tourism can be a tool for?
Conservation and sustainable development.
Furthermore, they also want to ensure that they help create tourism models that both support conservation and improve people’s livelihoods, but also reduce the ecological footprint
What WWF is doing: who is WWF working with to stop the illegal wildlife trade?
TRAFFIC.
Protecting wetlands: What was established more than 40 years ago to protect wetlands around the world?
The Ramsar Convention, which means that the country where the wetland is located has committed itself to protecting the site from development, pollution, and drainage
How can you help: What is one of the most endangered animals that is on the verge of extinction. Clue:You can adopt one.
Polar Bear
Threats: Use your own words, why might population growth be a threat towards species in the desert?
Resources—especially water—can be hard to come by in desert landscapes. Growing human populations put increasing pressure on those resources.
This means that currently there are enough resources for survival, but if humans strat building and the population increases, there will not be enough to survive with.
BONUS: what species is listed that a song was named after. Hint: it looks like a cross between a whale and a unicorn
BONUS: Gues which animal I am... Hunting and habitat loss due to deforestation continue to threaten my survival, I am a strong swimmer and climber and require large areas of tropical rain forest and stretches of riverbank to survive, and I am up to 6 feet in length and am a cat.
