Explain the connection between the Indian Removal Act and the Trail of Tears.
The Indian Removal Act said all American Indians living east of the Mississippi River should be relocated to the Indian Territory, which affected MANY tribes. They were not given adequate shelter, blankets, meds, or food. When gold was found on Cherokee land, the Cherokee were forced off their land on the Trail of Tears. Many died along the way. So while many tribes made the dangerous journey where many died, the Trail of Tears is specific to the Cherokee.
