On January 1st, 1863, the Emancipation Proclamation, issued by Abraham Lincoln, stated that every slave in the Confederate and Union states was now free. On May 14, 1863,  founded by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony because they thought the Proclamation was too limited. Their main goal was to end the Civil War by creating an amendment in the U.S. Constitution. Organized a massive petition drive that gained half a million signatures, hopefully convincing Congress to abolish slavery. Petitioning helped to create the 13th Amendment.

They changed the course of the Civil War by supporting both the home front and the direct military. Thanks to the woman on the battlefield, the wounded were treated quickly, and supplies were passed around faster.

The significance of women in the Civil War consisted of many things, such as helping in battles, stepping up, and taking charge of families. Women helped in battles by both fighting and helping injured soldiers. Women also took the role of starting organizations such as the Red Cross and helping slaves escape using the Underground Railroad system. Women played a major role in the Civil War and left a lasting impact, like women's rights today and the overall outcome of the war as well.

On the night of June 1st, 1863, Harriet Tubman and Colonel James Montgomery, and the 300 men all began the start of a raid. The main goal was to rescue the enslaved people. The raid was a success! They were able to free over 700 people!
