What would you do in this scenario?
You have a job at a local grocery store, and you requested a day off due to a doctor's appointment out of town. Your boss has scheduled you to work the day of your appointment, when you had already submitted the request.
How do you approach your boss?
Regardless of the conversation, please be professional and calm.
- You can gently remind them you requested the day off, but you don't have to tell them why. You can just say I have a doctor's appointment, but please leave it at that.
- If your boss tries to push back, you can use the same approach and in a calm and mannerly fashion.
During this experience, you show up to work and observe what someone does for a day. In this period of time, you learn what expectations and responsibilities you'll encounter in the day. You are strictly observing, not working.

When commuting to work if you have to travel a longer distance, how can prep yourself for success your mornings before leaving for work?
- Meal prep/prepare the night before
- Make sure you have clean clothes for work by doing laundry the night before
- Make sure if you need caffeine, that you plan accordingly and either make some at home and bring it with you or leave extra time for a coffee pit stop
- If you know you need gas before heading to work, leave earlier or fill up the day/night before
- If you aren't clean and need to shower, make sure you either wake up early enough or shower the night before
- If your phone needs to be charged for work, charge it while you're asleep or charge it while you're getting ready before leaving the house.
- If you have animals at home (dogs specifically) that need to go outside before you leave, give yourself enough time to do so.

What is an accommodation that can be made to help you with your anxiety
First, you need to let them know what gives you anxiety, certain aspects of the job, a person, etc.
Second, you need to find a time to sit down with your boss and let them know what could be changed, or even suggest a change to the way you do the job.
Third, you need to find an accommodation you can agree on with your boss that will make it easier for you to complete your job. In the end, it might benefit more than one person.
