But then he moved with his family to a small town. He didn't know anyone. He didn't have a job to do. Worst of all, he was surprised t find that there was no recycling program in this new place.
We're getting one started," their neighbor, Mr. Newman, said. "Would you like to hand out information sheets?" "I sure would, said Markus. "Recycling is important." The following evening, Markus went door-to-door on his street. It didn't take long, and everyone seemed pleased to meet him. Still, Markus hoped they weren't just being polite. To him, recycling was as important as eating. The phone rang when Markus got home. It was Mrs. Martinez from across the street. "Markus, can we recycle plastic bottles? THey aren't listd on the sheet." then there was a knock at the door. It was Michael, who lived four doors down and played on the school basketball team. "Markus, do you have any spare boxes from your move? We want to start recycling, but we don't have anything to put newspapers in." Markus smiled. "As a matter of fact, we do," he said. Markus found a way to make a difference. Recycling was an activity he could share with others in his community. He was starting to like this new town.
