Egypt: God used Egypt to preserve His people in a time of famine. When Egypt became a place of oppression, God led them out to Canaan. 

Assyria: During the time of Judges, God used various nations to punish Israel for their unbelief and sin. God continued to use the nations to punish His people in the time of the Divided Kingdom. In 722 BC, Assyria defeated Israel and carries some of the nation into captivity. God used this captivity to preserve His people. 

Babylon: Within 70 years Babylonians fell to the Persians, and the Israelites were permitted to go back to their land.
