Why was trench warfare used in WWI?
The advanced weapons and technology (from the Industrial Revolution) made countries develop new tactics. They dug ditches in the ground to protect themselves from the heavy artillery. Trench Warfare also help so that if enemies came to your side, it would be harder to escape and/or not get shot as easily. It was used for protection against the new weapons

Why do some people think the Treaty of Versailles CAUSED WWII?
The Treaty of Versailles made Germany take all responsibility for paying for the war. They were shamed into saying they were at fault for the ENTIRE war. As nationalism was a major cause of the war, Germany's pride was down. They lost all their land. They had millions of Germans die. The Germans couldn't even talk, literally, at the meeting!
