Tearing of tissue with irregular edges, a cut in the skin

This term refers to the protrusion of visceral organs through a wound opening.
What is evisceration?
Red, moist tissue composed of new blood vessels. Healthy, viable tissue.
What is granulation tissue?
A debridement technique that involves the use of specialized dressings that allows the dead tissue to be self-digested by enzymes present in the wound.
What is autolytic debridement?
Exudate that is bright red; indicates active bleeding.
What is sanguineous exudate?
A closed wound, usually caused by a blow from a blunt object. Ecchymosis
What is a contusion?
This refers to the erosion of tissue underneath the wound edges that are beyond the wound opening.
What is undermining?
Black or brown necrotic tissue. Nonviable and needs to be removed for the wound to heal.

A debridement technique that involves the use of topical enzymes that helps digest or dissolve the dead tissue.

Wound drainage that is pale red; mixture of plasma and blood.
What is serosanguineous exudate?
A larger collection of blood that occurs in deeper tissue

This is the extension of tissue erosion beyond the wound bed and wound edges.

Repaired wound tissue.
